Very nice use of silent teleports. The enemies and lack of weapons were a good challenge it wasnt extremely hard. Textures were really good too not all tacky and shit. I got a little lost on the part where you have to shoot the switch but other than that its the best map ive played all week. kandy_kid 4/5

Sweet! The only thing I didn't like were the pain elementals/lost souls in the first round-ish area - they always passed the teleport lines with *visible* flashes. It's probably a shortcoming of ZDoom, though; ideally, the different parts/sectors should be connected seamlessly (the same way that underwater/above water sectors are). But that's not your fault. :)

This gets a star for the drug-crazed storyline; and it gets several more stars for the visual style of the level, which is lovely. And there are lots of surreal tricks involving invisible teleports that either misdirect you or create a portal effect. The actual gameplay is less interesting; it's just a lot of simple gunfights in nice-looking square rooms, strung together in a level structure that makes you play it twice. But it's fun, and worth playing for the visual experience at least.

Awesome. The only thing I hate is being stumped on a damn puzzle. The carnage is good otherwise, though. Song sounds like darkwave, so there's an extra *.

There are very good ideas on this wad to the point that it´s built around them. I´ve seen these kind of tricks before in wad experiments but never got to play a map that made something playable and fun out of them. While the puzzles and situations are very fun the map falls flat in the cheap battles against large hordes of monsters, only to confirm this on the final confrontation. This map boasts great ideas and execution but the firefights that should accompany them are lacking. 3/5. -Danimetal.

This is no doubt one of the best doom map I've played in a long while. Atmosphere is brilliant (the music too), gameplay is excellent, it wasn't that tedious. Really innovative and memorable. 5/5

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
