A very solid doom map that plays a bunch of mind tricks with hidden teleports. My main problem is that it gets kind of confusing by the end, sometimes it isn't clear what switches do, and you're left to run around and backtrack until you see something new. The final boss was also frustrating.

a slow-paced level, meant for showing some interesting trickery that earned it the "Escher Award", although this kind of trickery can easily be found in newer wads now. it's got a weird story in text file but I could care less about that. the wad itself was fun enough to warrant a recommendation.

Nice use of ZDoom features to create a challenging level fill of surreal experiences. Recommended for those that want to take a break from the usual experience and play MC Escher Doom.

Imagine what this would be like in Deathmatch. =D The puzzles are absolutely brilliant and well-made, and there is no way to predict what'll happen next: somehow the author makes this a positive rather than a negative. The only thing that's missing is walking on the ceiling! 5 stars. - Obsidian

Overrated. Some good novelty ideas, but very annoying gameplay. Too many mappers want to destroy the player in teh name of chalalalange, maybe provide some fun here and there? Don´t get me wrong, I love killing hordes of cacos/revs with the single shotty, np...2/5

This map is reallly well, STRANGE. A very memorable experience nonetheless. There are some faults but it's a unique idea with reasonable execution so 5/5 is given.

Points for the whacked out txt file and unique and interesting use of the ZDoom engine. A fine wad, confusing and sometimes maze-like, but fun and unique gameplay. Did I mention that it's effing impossible? (SSG fight against a Spiderdemon + at least a dozen Barons? Count me in!) Putting that aside, this wad gets major cool points for endless staircases and jump-through mirrors. 4/5. Difficulty? 6/5

It's holy shit, man. Definitely a dada-ism experience. From infinite loops to walking into mirrors. Of course, the surprise ambush traps are neat. Oh shit! Make a megawad based on these puzzles and it should be in cacowad history. ~5/5

The warping shit sucks. I thought I saw my computer glitch. And then a few minutes later I get stuck in a outdoor area. 4/26/07

5/5 Architecture is great, I like the texturing, and the fights are rough. The concept really only breaks down in the loop with the Pain Elementals. Aside from that, the vast rooms feel a bit underdetailed, but it's packed with plenty of "whoa!" moments, like the red key surprise, the library, and the final leg of the map. - KMX E XII

Amazing idea and, contrary to what other people said, the dificulty was perfect. Up until the final the boss that is. The final battle was just too damn challenging. Also, Arachnotron, Spider Demon, and Cyberdemon completely threw off the medievil theme. If the final battle was actually possible I would give a 5/5, but it pissed me off way too much. - 4/5

It's trippy and neat, but way too hard for me, and I played it on Hurt Me Plenty. The puzzles are well done: they take a little figuring out, but nothing is too hard, and sometimes the simplest answer is the correct one. Just ease up on the monsters (dude goes a little revenant happy) and you've got an amazing lvl.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
