I didn't like this game, there are so much Details over gameplay,I know that Details is what makes the games look cool, but it was so long and empty at the same time

I get the feel that this is nothing more than a concept wad - not for playing straight, because the visuals are STUNNING, but the gameplay is, for lack of a better word, lumpy - there's nothing at a time, and then BAM!, you get rolled over by a wall of enemies. Your best bet is to turn "IDDQD" on and treat the combat as a side aspect while gawking at the maps.

Just played it through. These are some of the most beautiful maps i've ever seen. The realistic detailing is a refreshing change from the standard look of Doom maps. I enjoyed the gameplay myself, i believe due to the fact that it caters to more seasoned players. 5/5

Well, at least the levels look fantastic. The maps aren't that fun to play in. They're just fun to look at. 3/5

To add to what reviewer 5 said, I found the easiest difficulty too hard, which is largely to do with the awkward and often frustrating placement of monsters, and the very large level design tedious and even frustrating. That isn't to say this wad is bad, but some fundamental components of good level design could have been done better. On another note, a massive amount of detail doesn't necessarily improve the aesthetics of the map, especially given to the fact that this is Doom 2.

The solitary wad that really teaches you how to make your map LOOK good. 5/5

The levels look really awesome, but goddamn the maps can either be mind-numbingly bornig or frustratingly hard with a ton of monsters teleporting all around you at certain times. Shameful. These guys should have tried spending more time working on the gameplay aspects of the map rather than the visual eye-candy.

Its got nice detail, but there's huge parts that lack enemies. For example, in level 1, shouldn't there be loads more demons and undead UAC personnel waiting for you, inside and outside? (especially in that large city-like area.

The gameplay is atmospheric in parts but due to fussy door design and the fact that the layouts are just *too* stretched this was, and I say it as a seasoned oldschooler, frustrating to play. The replacement textures aren't great either but the biggy is the lack of flow. This mapset is many things and a lot of people like it but for me it's not what Doom is about. 2 stars - pritch

I agree with other people, the level design is superb but gameplay is fucking awful. I understand that game should be challenging but this wad throws hundreds of monsters at you in tight spaces without cover. Dying for like 50 times in a SINGLE level is frustrating, especially when I once saved game right a split-second before a monster killed me, which led to death repeating when I pressed space bar. Had to replay that stupid level (I'm talking about the horror map, MAP09). Rating: 1*

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
