Scars of the Wounded Prey

About This File

This wad was formed from my desire to make a little map in a short space of time. I have this ambition because all of my other projects seem to have ballooned out of proportion, and I was getting a little bored of them. The name is just something I came up with on the spot to stick in the text file, and has little meaning to the wad itself (unless you like to think Doom has enough AI to effectively hunt you). Visually the map is just another of my techbase style maps, so the architecture should be good enough for those who like to see some detail whilst they blow away their hunters. Jumping and crouching are not necessary to play the wad (unless you want to get some of the secrets, in which case you will have to jump), but they won't break it either. Now with two distinct difficulty modes!

That cyberdemon could well be the single most best placed cyberdemon ever. Awesome wad to play on UV if you like them tough. If not, then this probably isn't for you. 5* from me though!

Wow, this was on the tough side. I was playing on AV and it gave me a good challenge. I like this map a little bit, it's pretty cool. The detail was good also. 7/30/07

Great one. Loved it. Just missed my SSG. Lots of rocket work this time and lots of stuff to shoot. Nice arch, but also some odd design here and there. 4/5.

It was getting good until you are automatically killed in that jumping game at the last switch. I was having fun, then if you miscalculate you jump you are killed, and there are no auto-saves, so fuck it, I just quit. -Antidote

This is a big but sloppy level, on the verge of being a parody; there are hundreds of monsters but you get hundreds of rockets, too, although if you run out you're finished. It's a chore to play. Minus points for having a maze, a long twisty maze-like corridor, several bits where you can fall into inescapable slime, ugly design, and only giving the player the rocket launcher and chaingun, which means you're stuffed if the monsters teleport close to you in a cramped area (which they do).

a tweaked rerelease would make this map absolutely great: its too hard sometimes (skill2), more weapons, the room with the last switch is really annoying, a few spots could have been nicer, otherwise there are fantastic nice areas and some fights are a lot of fun 4.5/5

An excellent, albeit sometimes ridiculously hard level. Great fun overall.

This map is medium-sized but has a quite high monster count. The ambience is looking good (tech rooms in general) and gameplay is challenging enough, however it suffers a bit from the limited choice of weapons - for the whole job, you've got the chaingun and the rocket launcher only. 3/5 -Milian

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
