This was quite fun but as I got as far as the ice monster I didn't have a clue how to beat it. Voting 4 stars instead of 5 since it's easy to get stuck later on through it without any idea on how to progress any further.

Hopkins must be one of the most creative people to ever open up a Doom editor. This project shows that he's not only mastered basic mapping, but also has a good handle on advanced ZDoom features, scripting, and custom content. Furthermore, the story he tells and the puzzles he presents are every bit as good as AAA adventure titles. Absolutely epic. 5/5 stars, legendary.

I haven't finished it entirely. I did get all the way to the credits, but of course, I didn't complete everything and get the full ending, but i'm working on it. Exploration is great, and there is serious sense of a chievement to EVERYTHING you do, every discovery makes you feel good, when you uncover some secret hidden area. Not to spoil anything, but just before entering the ice area and seeing what surrounds you is a classic moment, and the bosses are clever.

Way too repetitive and too much item hunting.

I was wondering if such an adventure game would be possible with Zdoom scripting engine and now I can see and play it! Riddles are not that hard but it makes you running around searching for objects, big and chaotic but a great exploration world. Sometimes it slows down and gives me the motion sickness but I can understand it's not easy to make it run smooth. Ok,. after a point I tried the walkthrough but that's because of the motion sickness and wanted to finish this gem fast! 5/5 - Optimus

Good sides - Huge nonlinear levels, puzzle-based gameplay, lots of interesting story development and quite hard, but still adjustable combat. At times it felt like an adventure/rpg game rather than a shooter. Bad sidez -too evident lack of ambient sounds, the underwater looks very unnatural (water haze friend..), the rock formations in most cases look too damn sqaure. A bit more slopes would remedy the situation. Nevertheless, a huge effort by the author. 4 stars.

Very very very good. Very imaginative! A welcome change from the usual single doom wads. Could of used more weapons, bigger variety of enemies and maybe a better boss fight. More journal entries would of been appreciated also. However this was a very fun wad to play through, 5/5!

Well, what can I say? The gameplay tends to get boring, but you had me hooked until the end. Both of 'em. The visuals are rather impressive, and all in all, a good game experience, I think. 4/5

This is an example of perfect execution of a good concept. The scripting was amazing, and it had a definitely original feel to it. 5/5 SMG

Everything about this wad is legendary. From detail to gameplay, this wad does it all. My only complaint were the endings. Even the good endings was a bit depressing. Although you saved the world, you still paid a heavy price. The sacrifice you made put you into a vegetative state that you would likely never recover from.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
