About This File

tech, industrial, metal, brick - sort of mixed theme; it is a big map, so you should save from time to time; some places are dark with zdoom, brighter with prboom; five/six monsters are in a secret room;

Large and detailed industrial/tech facility. The detail is well-done and thankfully doesn't get in the way of gameplay at all. The difficulty is pretty low / moderate, with the tension rising & falling periodically, which is quite nice. The level design hinges upon a central hub that the player must return to every time they find a key, using it to open up new areas, all in a very interconnected fashion. I see one review claiming the map is focused on "puzzles", but I found the progression completely straight-forward, and there was an abundance of good action.

Level with a central area that is operated by all 3 keys. You find each key separately and it is used to open the next branch of the map. Very good visuals, very good layout, very good architecture and very good, smooth gameplay. Difficulty is... low? Fantastic map, all in all.

The best of the three so far. Regarding climbing ladders, TURN OFF AUTORUN. If in run mode quite often the player cannot climb them. Thanks go to Didy for this hint. I look forward to more maps. 5\5. Hawkwind. :)

5/5 but I think some monster placement could have been done better to make the map more intimidating.

This is a large and consistently attractive map that emphasises mild puzzle solving over action. Unlike a lot of expansive modern levels it's quite mellow, with a light load of generally weak monsters. The detailing and new textures are great, and there are lots of mysterious devices and machines etc. The ladder leading to the red key doesn't seem to work, either in PrBoom or ZDoom; but you can leap onto the key from a nearby lift, bypassing that puzzle entirely.

This is one of the best looking wads i've ever seen. It's full of great detail and inventive ideas. As to gameplay, the map is a challenge but not overly hard. With some caution, you can cope well with all battles. 4.5/5 -Milian

Looks good, gameplay is kinda meh. Also there's a few doors that only open once, and you can get stuck (I did a few times.)

The level of detail here is quite incredible, but I have to agree with others, that the gameplay isn't without any issue. 4/5 - Damned

Somehow I missed this release last year. That's what happens when Newstuff reviewers faulter on their responsibilities. Regardless, 4 stars, this is a wonderful map. It plays well, for me, and it looks gorgeous, the new textures really bring it to life fro generic doom2 elements. -Scuba

Agree with above comments but a bit too mellow gameplay. Style reminds me abit of a brighter and spacier version of for whom to bell tolls. 4 1/2 stars coldfusio

Excellent well laid out level with high quality architecture and top-notch gameplay. Plenty of battles. Little too much ammo, maybe because I play UV -fast and like watching those stupid bastard hell spawn scrap amongst themselves. ~nice work didy 5/5 -jb

      I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

      Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

      A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

      Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

      I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
