I like this map. The only problem is that all the monsters are dead before you find the yellow door and exit. You know nothing exciting is going to happen. 5/23/07

Very nice map, but has way too much ammo, and is a little short. 4/5

Very good small sized level that starts off harder and relaxes a bit as you go. The texture use and scale are excellent, and the level is generally nonlinear. [4/5] ~Chain Mail

An Awesome Looking little map, the gameplay is tough, you have to get the shotgun from one of the Shotgun Guy who is well guarded by Troopers. There is much less health and ammo which helps represent a great challenge. Like Monlth01.wad this level dosent support Co-op and that is not good because it would be a great level for Co-op play. 4 Stars -PC

A great map and addition to a series i'm starting to like quite a lot. Everything was done well - the detail, monster placement, health, ammo, secrets, consistency, etc. And it's got a cool floating block at the beggining. Trippin'.

Like the first Monolith level, this is simple, compact, well-designed, and tricky. It starts off chaotic but gets easier as it goes along, especially if you do lots of pistol and chaingun sniping. The design is no-nonsense, and the level doesn't have any overt source port features.

A lot easier than I expected from Richard Wiles: you can play it methodically in total safety, and there are no ambushes worth speaking off. Also, areas once pacified tend to stay that way, and there is no shortage of ammo, so the strategy is simple. Still, a nice little map (lacking Zdoomisms or Boomisms as far as I can tell), and hopefully more will follow. One gripe: the teleporter squares only one side of which is actually a teleporter - not a good idea.

Nice short map set in some kind of mountain fortress. Normally I only play UD maps with fastmonsters, but this one plays very well that way. 4*

This was my first encounter of the monolith levels, and i must say, nice level. all is well placed in my opinion. i even ran out of ammo the first time i played it. the detailes are well designed. go on making those levels. RPG.

A great map, and it even runs on non-ZDooms! -- 5/5

I was quite surprised with fast start with only pistol, but after I got shotgun, everything became easier. The nonlinearity was fine, but the design wasnt as great as in Monolith 2. Overall nice map. 3.5 - Damned

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
