If you don't find any of the many secrets then this is a pretty hard map and you will soon run out of ammo, but with all the powerups and weapons it soon becomes fairly easy. There are a few nasty switch teleporters, one of which throws you into a cage surrounded by angry imps, so searching for the secrets becomes a hazard. The death teleport was a bit pointless, but overall this is a fun map to play. 4/5 -jb

I agree with the second reviewer, that the map feels quite cramped. It was a fun short map nonetheless. Ammo was perfect for me, although you have to find at least a few secrets (wich isn't very hard btw) to be on the safe side ammo-wise. I think 3 stars are appropiate here!

Ultra-Violence. I quit when I died in tiny lava room. SSG is too late in the game. Secrets are too obvious. I don't see any way to run out of ammo on this map. Useless rocketlauncher because corridors and rooms are so tight. I liked only the author's detail style because it's much different from what we see nowadays. 2/5 - Zalewa

This is a short, simple map that feels old-fashioned, although it's entertaining. There are lots of little secrets, most of which are marked on the automap. They contain a huge amount of health and ammo. There are 80-or-so monsters. You can clear out the "imp cage" before teleporting into it. I had no problem reaching the shotgun shells at the start of the map (I use GZDoom). At the end of the map you teleport into a room that kills you, which is odd.

Well, it's somewhat cramped, has a retarded death trap and a bunch of secrets which seem to be thrown in just to provide the player with huge amounts of health and ammo. Looks average, plays worse. 2/5 - Belial

Ammo isn't ever an issue, and all the little secrets keep you stocked up on health and such preventing the little traps from being threatening. The secrets make the map a little too cushy for my liking, and some cramped areas make moving around a little awkward (and I'm talking about when there are no monsters :P ). I must have somehow missed the death trap... 3/5 - Siggi

This is a rather short map, but it's rough and action filled. The rooms are very narrow, so your fist or the chainsaw often is the best choice of weapon. There are many nice and tricky traps and gameplay is challenging, plus there are plenty of secrets which are rather easy to find and which will provide you with lots of spheres. Gameplay is good, but the map has no real atmosphere, it's just a quick shoot and rush. 3/5 -Milian

The "death trap" is utterly retarded, and certainly is not the sort of thing that adds replay value. Make your maps more non-linear (i.e. several ways to tackle them, plenty of route options - allow the player to be a little creative), and avoid instant death traps.

Hmm, very nice. I think the main point of this map is actually the secrets, not the layout and the gameplay. But yet, this was a good map and a fun to play one. 4/5 -Moti

The shotgun shells are unreachable at the start, which means you run out of ammo while fighting chaingunners. Oh, and its cramped as hell too.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
