About This File

This is a small map, first one, of my unfinished Final Onslaught project. I couldn't have been bothered to finish the rest of the maps. Short, small, very detailed. Enjoy.

This is looking beautiful, with the author being on a detailing spree. But... IT's TOO SHORT!! It has only 24 week monsters and is over before it even begins. Pity! :-( 5 stars for asthetics, 1 for gameplay. 2.5/5 -Milian

Modern map standards? In Doom? I don't know wether to laugh or cry.

Good looking map but gameplay was just too easy even on UV 4 Stars - Alterworldruler

I like the details, so I like the look of this map. Sometimes there are problems with it, because you can get easily stucked behind some small corner and it sucks ;) It is easy on UV because no difficulty settings. The map is really easy but as map01 of some MW it could work good. Unfortunatly the project was cancelled and the potential of this map is lost. 3,5/5 - Damned

A person has to download this level for the detail alone. I know that it has no gameplay to it, but damn the detail is good and I want more levels like this. 3/5/07

This sort of simple intro' map for a multi-map project doesn't really offer much as a stand-alone release. The gameplay and design is (I guess intentionally) very simple, and there's no challenge at all. The massive oversectoring, much of which just gets in the way, and horrendous texture choice is really ugly to my eyes too. 1/5 FP

This is dated February 2007. You fight 24 mostly weak monsters in a brightly-lit techbase. The detailing is a bit old-fashioned by modern standards, and has an unfortunately cartoonish look on account of the brightness. The gameplay isn't bad, but it feels like the first fifth of a proper-sized map. The vast majority of the monsters are zombiemen and imps; if it takes you more than a minute to finish the level you're doing something wrong.

Detail is great and I would have given this map a 4/5 if there had been any real gameplay at all. On detail alone I give this map a 3/5.

I'll admit this, I suck a Doom. And this was SO EASY for me!! Oh, and too fuckin' short if you ask me. This is even worse than Paint-Brawl (a crappy fps paintball game make with duke 3d's engine for those who don't know what Paint-brawl is.) 1/5 you s.o.b.

I don't know what you're all whinging about because this is a perfectly acceptable map01 for any megawad. The real shame is that tougher, larger maps weren't completed and this very nice little map stands alone. I'll add that I would gladly show this to any person who hasn't played Doom in many years and needs something easy that showcases what the new sourceports bring to classic Doom. 4/5 - pritch

Even as a "showcase" role it isn't nothing special, except that it proves definitively and beyond doubt that slopes are possible. Other than those, no other special source port features are used (maybe the truecolor sky), and it rivals Gothic'99 in baroque and rococo detail. It also remains unchallenging even for a rusty fellow doomer, E1M1 is much harder than this on UV at anytime. 2/5

Nice, but essentially unfinished and unchallenging. 24 monsters in UV, of which the toughest is a final Hell Knight. The architecture seems to be the perfect complement to Tormentor667's super-slige like style, being heavily based on hyperdetailed ZDoom/Hexen slopes. The whole map screams "LOOK, I HAVE SLOPES!". However it lacks in atmosphere and use of light effects is very poor or inexistent.

A crazily ambitious map, which I daresay was too ambitious? In all honesty I prefer highly detailed maps over the retro style because they very much do so in fact generate atmosphere. Though the mishmash of some details, such as overuse of slopes, as well as conflicting patterns compromise what otherwise could have and would have been a very atmospheric and enthralling map. The effort put into the project however is very commendable.

As the first viewer said, this map screams "LOOK, I HAVE SLOPES!". This map has 24 monsters at UV, which makes me think this map just resembles detail instead of gameplay. Good music, good detail, filled with boring-ubersuparcool detailed empty rooms, and a Hell Knight as a strongest monster. 2 stars -Moti

The name is a little misleading to say the least, 'Final Onslaught' is not what this map is! Even on UV -fast, I only took 3 hits. There are no 'oh shit' moments where all hell breaks loose, it's just a nice walk in the park. On the plus side: The look of this map is excellently executed, although I thought some texture choices were a little odd. If this was a megawad, I would be looking forward to the next level, hoping for more murder-death-kill... This should (and could) be 4/5. 3/5 -jb

Wow, this is something else. A very easy map for Zdoom with only 24 monsters. The architecture and detail put into this map is amazing and the use of Zdoom features such as slopes is very well spread. It is very original but it lacks a bit of atmosphere and some textures are poorly chosen. It will be certinally a good start to a 32 level megawad. If you are looking for something Doom Like I don't reccomend you download this. A rating of 3.5 Stars -PC

When I launched this level I was like "Holy shit, that's an instant success!". After sending several bugs back to Hell and hitting exit switch this image was gone. I was very disappointed because I thought that this was going to be something better, yet it was like Entryway that looks different. The main point is that this map isn't bad. It just doesn't match my standards. 3/5 for effort and detail, Zalewa.

This map should never have been released IMO. The design is attrochious in ever way, and the action is uneventful. 0/5

Yet another example of style over substance. More sectors does not equal more fun.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
