About This File

this is a version of zbloodpak with edited decorate lumps to make it work on the new skulltag. since some skulltag lumps are already identified in the wad, the other decorate lumps are named with "2"s at the end of them. (ex darkimp2) permission from the author WAS obtained.

Definitely not that close to the original blood, but standalone, it's not that bad. Some of the levels are long, boring treks, but a bigger number of good ones makes up for that fact. The difficulty can get quite high on UV, but not too hard that it detracts from the gameplay and leaves you frustrated. The weapons are useful; the monsters are just like their doom respectives. Even if it doesn't stand much for replication of the original game, it seems to be ok on its own regardless. 4 stars

I liked this, the striking thing about this set is how well it captures the old school feel without feeling old. Gameplay was awesome (except for those moments when level progression got tedious). The level design varied, some parts where obviously plastered together, authors obviously didn't bother to make themes stick together but every now and ten you'll stumble upon a stylish and cleverly designed area, so I think the authors simply wanted to emphsize gameplay instead of design...

When I see in the text that the levelset focuses on gameplay rather than architecture, I tend to dismiss it as shite, however, in this case I am making an exception, because this truly describes what this megawad is all about. Provided you can turn a blind eye on level design (which varies from horrible to relatively good), you can enjoy the wicked fiendish fun that this provides. For this I'm giving it 3 stars, because the gameplay was great and I loved the use of hexen recources. -TeH NeXuS

Now when I see it voted I remember playing it (my brain is a tiny bit slow).Wasn't a masterwork, but it was ok.The levels lacked detail, but weren't boring to play actually, and really I don't think it's nearly as bad as to have 2 star overall rating (worse levels had better average score),and yes,I played altar666 and such uber-detailed stuff so it's not because I have no taste. And also, what's wrong with you guys? This should be a place for expressing your opinions anonimously, not bitching. 3/5- cook

Two important things for make a good old school FPS. Under simplicity there must be depth and technique. Technique needs 3 things. Weapons need thier own strenths and weaknesses, enemies need different fighting tactics, and level design must effect the technique. The technique you use depends on where you are and where the enemies are. That's why I like this TC. It has technique. P.S.Doom was famous for it's technology, but it's the depth and technique that made it fun. Not the scares.

Very entertained megawad. I recomended it. Some maps are bored and easy, but others are very good.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
