A mostly great wad throughout that's just let down by these irksome niggles. The levels do get progressively better through the wad which keeps you playing. Recommended.

kinda ugly looking textures, rather poor monster placement, and i have never played hexin or heritick, but if these maps are realy ripoffs of maps from those games thain they cant be very fun 1/5 you fail

Sorry... I played the first two levels from each set, and while they aren't bad, they're not good, either. As someone else above said, they're just *bland*.

this really needs to be cleaned up a bit, both visually and gameplay wise. it's way too monotonous. has potential, as does anything, i guess. 3/5

yeah, one complaint woudl be the lack of credit to a number of maps you ripped directly from, notably the first few maps of the hell section, taken from mount erebus, and hexen.

The above are a bit harsh. This really has some terrific, stand-out features that hooked me in. I haven't played through the whole wad yet, but I would still say that there are some punitive design elements that essentially suck all the health from the player. It's important to balance casual gameplay with the more difficult in-fights, and I felt that this balance wasn't fully achieved. Nonetheless really awesome, and I'm enjoying playing it (on the easier difficulties of course :P)

Very good megawad! Most of all, I liked the city levels, because sometimes, they look very realistic :) Hell levels are beautiful and interesting so. 5/5

I played a couple maps. Some of it were good. Some of it were kinda bland. I don't like some of the new textures. They don't seem out of place or just plain ugly.

I've mixed feelings about this one. There is a lot of bad rippage and rather pointless stuff included, and elementary errors too (DB camera object left in). Gameplay is less fun than it might be, due to lack of health, ammo and weapons. Poor pistol-start playability is a big no-no, IMO. But the maps are attractive and the layouts quite clever in places. So 3/5.

Not hexen, but some maps like heretic e2m1, e2m2. Despite that, the wad is attractive and challenging.

Not sure how anyone can say these levels are boring I haven't played through them all yet but what I have played through so far were very challenging and fun I am currently at the Prison level of the city group of levels

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
