About This File

One level for boom compatible and limit removing ports. PrBoom-Plus or GZDoom are recommended. Some DEHACKED stuff is taken from talented mapper Erik Alm. This is only the first level in the planned series of horror maps. To be continued...

To play this PWAD file, unzip it into the directory with your PWADs then start: glboom-plus.exe -file eden.wad -complevel 9; (g)zdoom.exe -file eden.wad

What's the point of high detail if its too friggin dark to see? I don't give two shits bout atmosphere if it ain't fun to play.

Amazing architecture, gameplay isn't bad but it's a bit dark, comfusing, and also very difficult (who though 167 monsters HMP in a huge level would ever be a problem?). 3.5/5

Guy! Please! Do yourself a favour and make the key findig/getting easier. Like the review said, stumbling around in darkness, searching for switches. Switch something, explode a portal but do not see what is done and run back though whole map. And take out the fricken plasma Nazi. OTHERWISE GREAT stuff (archit., texturing, whole atmosphere), m'kay! - Cacodemon

The plasma gunner is just a bad design decision. Not only is he placed early in the map, but on the 'easy' difficulty as well. This doesn't show much hindsight at all.

One of the best maps there is. Awesome atmosphere, really nice and gloomy layout, well detailed, as well as having a really good track. New monsters are really well used, especially the marine, who will keep you on your toes. Overall, a flawless gaming experience. 5/5 -Killer2

This is an elaborate modern level, with a mild H P Lovecraft steampunk-type feel. The design is surprisingly mazelike and blocky, although there are lots of new textures. The gameplay is relaxing though ammo-light; it's not helped by putting a fast-moving, plasma-spitting trooper near the start. He swishes around like a flea, and looks ridiculous. Hell looks like a disco. Overall this feels like a decent 1999-style map fast-forwarded into 2007.

Very impressive map - rather beautiful in places. Good use is made of Boom features, and it is generally atmospheric. Nice to see this author create a non-slaughter map too. One complaint: off-centre weapons are a bad idea when there is no crosshair. BTW, the reason the included demos don't work with older prboom versions is that they don't have Boom's friction code.

It's been a while since I've played a similar map and liked it. Obviously there's nothing wrong with the usage of the plasma marine. I only wish some of the really bland hallways looked more interesting. 4/5 - Belial

A very interesting take on gameplay, with tough monsters (some nice graphical edits too) and a slow paced, confusing style of progression. Sadly it didn't rub me up too well, and the ammo wasn't too well balanced, so only a 3

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
