Pff, never been such a fan of the Ghoul wads, due to insane hard skill level, but nice atmosphere and stuff anyway. Still too large bytewise and not enough levelwise (number and bland style) on the other hand. 2 (+1 for the work) makes a 3/5 forme. -Caco

Easily one of the best doom wads ever made. I think screamers generally are lame crap but I never expected a "screamer wad" to be actually worth playing, as a matter of fact, this exceeded all my expectations. Awesome wad and highly recommended for fans of creepy, horror, simple gameplay and brick shitting (I recommend particularly sensitive people to stay away from this thing). 5/5, for great justice.

I've never understood these ghoul wads. Obviously they are popular but for me neither the mapping or the gameplay hold any appeal. I was more bored wandering around the (unconvincing) forests than I was scared. 1 star, purely for the innovation of turning the screamer idea into a doomwad.

This WAD definitely does a great job at being very scary. The atmosphere is just so gloomy and you never want to step on that Creeper. It's the best game in the series. My only gripes are the Jitterskull (too hard to hit) and the flashing pictures of the Yurei (extremely vulgar and out of place). PRETTY DARN GOOD

Wow, didn't this scared the absolute shits out of me. Particually the Jitterskull!. There are 5 Ghouls, Choke, Sjasface, Jitterskull, Creeper and Yurei (or Samara). Choke dosen't seem to appear. 4 Stars -PC

WOW I LIKED IT A LOT!!! VERY SCARY. but a warning to everybody else. quit once you somehow kill the 3rd ghoul(i killed them all through cheats) unless you like getting the shit scared out of every place in your body. proceed with extreme caution. I MEAN IT!!!!

@the guy above me If you play on a setting which gives you lots of arrows they are harder to kill and on unlimited arrows they teleport away after every hit. Play on a high volume setting to know when the creeper is near you.

So you wander around to get hit by a billboard face graphic that makes earraping sounds, is fast as fuck, has way too much health for what it is, and instagibs you in one hit (even in god mode). Seriously, how is that any different from Terry's Cracknigger in "Spooky Woods" or that one map from UACMN? Giving this 1 star alone since you can use the bow and arrow gameplay mechanic outside this level.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
