About This File

Originally meant for the "#dmclub Channel Project" that was started last year, Systematic Corruption is a medium-sized e1-themed techbase.

Playing on U.V. should result in a ~300 monster count by the end of the level, while the lower difficulties are toned down a bit. However, you will probably still find somewhat of a challenge if you play on your regular skill level.

While playing, keep in mind that nukage/slime does no harm. Also be watchful of your ammo; unless you have a backpack you can easily collect too much ammo and waste it.

A good base map with examples of how visuals in Doom should be done (not this DTWID stuff that has been coming out lately). The 3-star rating has to do with some unfair game play moments. Some of the traps on UV are only possible through trial and error to figure out where to hide. Saving/Loading is a given with all the teleporting madness. Fewer teleporting Revenants certainly would have made it fair.

Tango has an excellent feel for what makes maps fun to play, and is a strong contender for any "mapper of the year" awards. 5/5

Quite good, though the theme of teleporting-in monsters is overused. Also, unless you are prepared for a brain-numbing challenge, I strongly advise you to play it on easy. 4/5 from me.

Overrated. Difficult, but not in a fun way. And I´m not talking about the constant spawning; there are too many cheap traps. I´m tired of mappers begging me to spend half of my life in their levels and *study* them.

This is a fun modern level, with a clean E1-style design. It's basically a series of traps, one after the other - you can always see when they're about to happen, and it's not too hard to flick the special switch / cross the line, and then dodge back where you came from and wait for the monsters to infight each other. As long as you back off it's easy, except for the final battle, where you have to attack! It's good fun.

Fucking retarded overuse of revenants and chaingunners in wide open spaces.

Awesome looking map, plays well too (though as people have said it relies a little too much on teleporting waves of enemies). I didn't find the final battle _that_ hard on HMP, although I didn't have enough ammo to finish the cyber. 4/5

HELL YES now this is what im talking about. This map rules in many ways. It's challenging as hell, The detail is pretty good, plenty of ammo and just enough health to get you by. Except for the last room, when monsters warp in, the player can leave the room and run freely throughout the level and take on the battle that way instead of being confined inside the room. Way to go Tango awsome map, make more. 8/15/07

Awesome. Although the last battle could have been a little easier.

Annoying difficulty!!! I hate it when revenants and chaingunners and a bunch of other monsters appear by teleporting shit. But good,. I beat it! 4/5 - Optimus

Not bad. The final fight was quite difficult, but still playable on my regular skill level. ;) I just miss some smarter traps and ambushes. 4/5 - Damned

Rooms full of teleporting revanties and no reward given afterwards! Looks are good, but gameplay just plain sucks! 1/5 stars for horrid gameplay and to many teleport traps.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
