I like the minimal design and decent amount of scripts (and other zdoom engine stuff). What I miss was the chainwas... And sometimes the door shut behind me and i cannot go back. Ok, it was a little unprofessional, moreover I can't go looking for secrets then... Still very nice megawad and I looking forward to play it again :)

I thought this looked rather nice, most of the first episode was improved [compare most of the new levels in Ep 1 to the ones in the directors cut], while most of the second was left relatively untouched. Gameplay is about the same as the original Simplicity, though there was way too much ammo scattered about these levels. Overall a very nice mapset, 4 stars

It's not perfect, but the maps are generally pretty darn good-looking and fun to play.

If your a fan of old schoolish mapsets, then this is pretty much rendered entirely obsolete by older and better mapsets like Alien Vendetta, Scythe, Memento Mori, Icarus, and Requiem, and more recently by Jimmy91's "Jenesis". It might be "well detailed", but even so, this is a pretty weak and boring. Not much point in really bothering to check it out. Sorry.

I love how clean the detailing is but the levels are very...sterile somehow. Although they look great, they don't really feel like actual places and feel a bit random. Still, it's very good and should be studied by every novice mapper whether you map for zdoom or not. 4/5

The whole time i was playing this wad i was screaming "There better be armor in this next room!!!" and it never happened. Stimpacks here and there dot do enough when every fireball is devastating. Your Zdoom-speeded ambushes wasn't much of a help for it either. The wad itself pissed me off almost the whole time, but I didnt want to quit. Your maps are too good.

Like the new screens/ boot sequences, some good new maps, but generally following the same repeating formulas. Nice architecture. Most of the battles are fun if a little predictable. A couple of totally unfun whats-the-point type ambushes. Two cyberdemons in a tiny area with no cover WTF?? Not being able to skip the boring stats screens SUCKS. Not being able to jump or crouch SUCKS. Whats fun about being crippled? Still worth 4 stars.

Well... I liked the original better. Enough said. Btw, what the hell was the point of not being allowed to jump or duck? I mean, what a load of crap.

A very nice level set of typical sporky Zdoom blended with classic-doom style gameplay. Whilst I do always find Spork maps enjoyable, I think his biggest weakness is a severe lack of variety in level design, with many of the levels (bar really only a few exceptions) being very, very generic. It's still an excellent achievement none the less, and I'll be nice and give it 5/5 FP

above average, but not great, always the same symmetric architecture and design though not bad, very good usage of textures, gameplay ranges from boring (monsters are behind every corner and every door) to good (with some special effects) 3.5/5

I don't think this is very exciting as it is an overhaul over what was done and fully finished. So in that sense this is not a continuation (ie. simp 2) and it is not something new. I don't think the 'improvements' are in fact real improvements - kind of like changing orange to yellow - so in that context this isn't very impressive at all. However the original simp was rather good. Yet I've always felt that monster usage can be done better and that the amount of detail overrides the somplicity tone.

This is fun. The final boss may be the most difficult Doom boss monster ever. I worked on nailing that thing for hours (and I didn't cheat, I swear)

Some nights before I go to bed, it crosses my mind that Spork isn't serving as an active Doom mapper anymore, and then I get real cold, it takes me about an hour to get to sleep, and when I wake up it looks like I've been crying into my pillow. I doubt I'll get over it even once I'm dead. 4/5 -Remiel

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
