Boring? I'm loving it, gameplay, design, wathever. And it seems that there are improvements, for example coop better supported. Yes, it is not simplicity 2, it's ultimate simplicity, the new version of simplicity. 5/5 stars

This is basically taking all the flashy gzdoom mods and removing all the flashyness, only leaving steaming piles of shit like this. I would prefer eye-candy because at least pretty mods have one redeeming factor, this has none. 2/5

Simplistic and primitive. Esp. in comparison towrads the new fps shooters which destroy this mediocrity by a ton! LOL. 1993 game revisited. Ya'll would be better doin some real programming instead of masturbating and flogging a now 15 year old dead horsee. I mean I played this stuff when I was 7 yrs old. Than it used to amuse me. Now? LOL! Bad! Just bad! 0 stars for ya! Try quake 4 and than see how far REALLY game design went and not this lol!

Too linear. The level design is really repetitive. Maps are too easy, even on Ultra Violence. Rarely am I ever challenged. Also I do not like being forced to use something other than the stock Doom UI. Big red letters appear telling you to minimize it if you try to. Enemy placement is predictable. Every time you hit a switch, monsters begin to spawn. Boring. 2/5.

It could've used some of the MRW Monsters, but the monsters already in the wad very much made up for that. The boss battles were hard but that bonus level was the best.

I don't think the people giving these poor ratings should even play doom. This mod, despite all the complex upgrades it has received, is still true to its word. Although, I thought that the Chaos Elemental became a Chaos Cacodemon, because it doesn't summon Lost Souls anymore. Other than that, EPIC!!!! 6/5

Awesome stuff, no complaints whatsoever. Was working on beating the carp ut of it on UV when life knocked on my door. I'll be back soon enough though. As for the wad, 5 stars, hands-down. Play it NOW before I run you over with an 18-wheeled truck. XP

I haven't finished it yet and i think i missed the secret level so i will be playing through this one again. This is defentialy one of the top wads of the year so far. - Whiteboy567

Technically superb, and very good-looking. Knocked down by (i) having monsters lurking directly behind so many doors (one of the other reviewers mentions the 'in your face' monster traps, and they get old quickly), (ii) twiddly designs on the walls hamper mobility, (iii) every switch, pickup, everything is a trap and (iv) crashed Zdoom a couple of times when I tried to save it. But technically and generally awesome.

As decent as this mapset was, I still thought that there were some aspects of it that were quite lacking. The stats screen did not allow skipping it, therefore making the end a bit tedious to get through. Also, what's with all those run-ins with two archviles and hordes of zombies with no cover in a 128x128 room I keep seeing? I just couldn't give more than a 3/5 for such pointless encounters, since they simply did not allow for any sort of viable strategy, unless I am missing something here...

There are lots of amazing scripts in this and great detail. The levels aren't really what i'd call simple and I thought some levels had average flow/appeal. Many levels were great though! Nice work. 4/5

Pretty darn good, but the occasional bit of obtuseness spoils it just a bit. For example, I couldn;t exit one map because some of the monsters that you have to kill to trigger the door would not teleport out into the arena! Arrgh. But still sull of sporky goodness overall 4/5 - pritch

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
