GBA Deathmatch Levels

About This File

This is the Deathmatch Levels from the Gameboy Advance version of Doom ripped using Kaiser's excellent GBA Ripping tool. The maps inside were organized by me, and I aligned all the textures, fixed a bug, and optimized it.

Something to note; I'm grading this on the fact that this is a port. Considering that he made slight changes (such as optimization) it's somewhat disappointing that there isn't a Player 1 Start anywhere. I've also heard that it doesn't work in vanilla, which is incredibly disappointing with the simplistic nature of the maps. Either way though, if you're the type of person who geeks out about this stuff it's a nice port to have.

The levels themselves are ok and I realize they are direct rips of the GBA levels but the lack of player 1 starts is unpardonable. The fact the author of the wad went through the trouble to align textures and fix other unimportant things just makes things far worse.

The text file says that these are vanilla levels, but that isn't true. They don't work in PrBoom or Chocolate Doom. I guess you need Skulltag?

Not a bad conversion considering the texture limitation from the original GBA dm maps. Philnemba 3/5

Guys, stop burning the guy because it's ported from the GBA. They're good DM maps.

The maps seem OK for deathmatch, but the powrup distribution is awfully unbalanced... turn item respawn off for this one. Also the maps are really plain.. In fact, just player better DM maps. AS stated the GBA port felt kinda rushed but i imagine a few people had fun here back then.

MP2E: There are no Player 1 starts? Well that's not my fault, it's a direct rip from GBA. Anyway, I tested on Skulltag. Well, Where do you suggest I put player one starts? It's really a simple fix...

Very Interesting map conversion, but some lines are impassible... loads of bugs here. 3 stars for effort, though. Cson

hasn't anyone besides me realised that the first map's layout resembles quake 1 dm4? anyway, the maps are pretty simple on the whole. doom on the gba kinda sucked, it feels like a very rushed conversion. 3 stars.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
