Hey Glassyman, why don't you try making levels like these. But now with the review - each level contains one specific monster and there are some nice ones in here. I really liked Cacophany, Spook House. A few maps were unrealistic but most were awesome. Bony Encounter was also a good challenge as well. All levels were challenging, get it now!. 5 Stars -PC

There are a lot of nice maps in this wad. It's a shame because I think a lot of them were wasted on the 1 monster concept. Also the pain elemental map has 2 monsters so someone obviously didn't think this through properly (I would've much preferred to battle pain elementals that don't shoot anything) :) 4/5

The Map01, LostSoul's Map and Dutch Devil's ChaingunGang Map are the best Maps! - 4/5 Logan MTM

Maps are too big for only one monster. 3/5

Not bad, as an experiment concept-wad thingymajig. I had reservations about the potential of this idea, but some of the maps are genuinely fun, and some quirky (like the spook house). Some of the mapping is noticeably on the high end of the quality spectrum, but it's probably inevitable that the gameplay will become tedious/repetitive in parts. It's an interesting footnote in wad making, as a gaming experience it's okay. ***

Fun most of the time time. But other times frustratingly tedious.

pure crap concept, you fight army of the same monsters per map some of them are huge and make this wad very very boring

It's sad how you people manage to gang on Glassyman even on this occasion. Go play some Doom maps instead. Like this one. 5/5 -Maes

The gameplay of this megawad has lots of flaws: Overly long maps, irritating map design that features way too much backtracking/walking around to find switches and keys and dull fights due to the lack of variety of enemies. There's a few maps that I liked better than the othe ones like Chamber Of Souls and Knightmare but even those maps were kinda boring which is a shame since the authors put in quite a lot of effort in making this. 0/5

Being a community project the quality of each individual level varies quite a lot, but few maps are able to overcome the simple fact that the 1monster concept is ill-conceived to begin with. Keeping maps short and sweet probably would have helped overcome the boredom of fighting one monster type at a time, but a number of the maps are just too long and tedious. Overall, a pretty bad idea to begin with, implemented to varying degrees of success. 2/5 FP

Like any community project, there are good designs to be found here, unfortunately the whole one monster think turns out to be an awful gimmick in so many cases that sucks the fun right out of many levels here. Really it would be nice if the authors still around would rerelease their levels separately, except converted to the normal normal Doom gameplay we have all come to expect.

bah! Playing through 22 maps with only 1 type of monsters in them would be ok in short levels, but not long ones. 2/5 stars.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
