Sorry... too non-linear for my taste.

Almost as good as me. Five out of five nonetheless.

This is dated November 2007. You fight 202 monsters in a good-looking, large-scale hellish castle, with a non-linear layout and lots of action. The ammo and health balance is perfect (i.e. there's not much) and there's also the option of playing it all Tyson-style. Difficulty mild-to-tricky. Some odd design quirks - transparent but impassable bridges - and it looks surprisingly old-fashioned, but otherwise it's great fun.

^So I'm a noob because I can't kill off 4 mancubi, 6 revenants, 4 arachnotrons and 4 archviles in tight quarters with no ammo at all in that room ? Sure. I have played too many of those maps where the mapper "makes you pay" in one way or another. 4/5 to offset my 1/5 when I was just upset. Good bye.

If it wasn't for the mapping error bug at lines 8919 and 9133, very noticeable in GL ports ( easily fixed ) the inability to walk under bridges and the instances of misaligned textures, I would have rated this 5/5 , as it is 4/5.

This is a really cool level. It kicks the shit out of all of the default Plutonia maps. Very well designed and it's not insanely hard like the default Plutonia maps. 5/5

What a great map. This is precisely what that crap known as plutonia should have been. A lot of the open fights were really great.

A great looking level with tough but good gameplay. Lotsa annoying Former Humans. The Architecture was great, dark and atmospheric just like Endgame map07. My type of map. The only letdown is that you can get stuck after the yellow key bars if you fall to the right so its best to save often. Get it now! 5 Stars -PC

Good detailing, but that's the only good thing about this map. The cake takes the final battle: if you can't spare enough ammo during the map (and given how sadistically tight it is, chances are great you can't), it's basically impossible. Man, I should learn the discipline not to play such stuff. 1 star from a pissed off doomer

Very nice Plutonia-styled map and really good gameplay, but there are some annoying bugs, so I'd give it 4/5. - Demonologist To above reviewer: n00b detected! =P

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
