About This File

One level for any limit removing ports. PrBoom-Plus or (G)ZDoom are recommended.

This level is improved version of my map for speedmap contest on iddqd(point)ru on which all competitors were limited with four hours and with common theme. I hope all players who liked my "Generator of Evil" will like this level too.

If this level is too hard for you, then you can watch in-wad demo1 by Nikolay "Heretic" Kamnev. Compatible port like prboom-plus is needed in this case.

Important:

Do not play this level in the current vanilla PrBoom (up to 2.4.8 for now), because of all existing versions of PrBoom are buggy on levels with big open areas - precision problems. Use PrBoom-Plus instead of classic PrBoom.

The latest Eternity release (3.33.33) also can't handle this map correctly - the same precision problems.

It was decent. Sometimes it felt like the map didn't know what it wanted to be, so expect parts where you're randomly just shooting 1-2 imps at a time. There was also a bit too much health and ammo, and I beat most of the level without using cells. Perhaps the level was designed with speedrunning in mind?

Besides that, great visuals and somewhat decent gameplay in some areas. It's not too long, I (almost, missed the first secret) maxed it in just under 2 and a half hours (including deaths), though I really took my time on the level.

Overall though, I'd say this is a case of a slaughtermap kinda getting it right, with a mostly straightforward progression, plenty of ammo (though again, a bit too much, as it starts to wane on the difficulty), and parts that are actually fun. There's also some room to be creative in fights, so don't expect a lot of generic, boring, drawn out, switch hunt, linear do-exactly-this-or-the-fight-is-impossible slaughter gameplay (not to say there aren't some generic boring parts). I'd say it's worth at least checking out.

3.5/5, though rounded up to 4 because I'm a nice person and stuff.

Well bollocks to the reviewers that don't like, or should I say cannot handle this 1436 baddie slaughter map. There's a shit load of powerups, but you'll most likely use most of it even being careful as wave upon wave of baddies come in. You can create a lot of in-fighting, which I can sit and watch, laughing like a mad fool for ages. Even though this is a huge map, I didn't get lost once as the layout is fairly simple but nicely done. Ended up with 3500+ kills... nice job Dead! 5.4/5

This is a large novelty slaughter map, with almost 1,500 baddies that come at you in single-species groups. You get lots of health and ammo, the ammo being more precious. Provided you deal with the archviles quickly it's not too hard - like a lot of slaughter maps it seems to get easier as it goes on. The gameplay is typical of the genre, you just weave in little figure-of-eight patterns whilst holding down the left mouse button; it's mesmerising.

Wow! One of the best massive monsters level I have ever played. Usually in other of this kind you begin with no ammo and hunderds of revenants and cyberdemons and hard monsters and just run run and run around without anywhere to hide. This was different and it was played very well, there were ammo, different areas, places to hide, not many massive areas where you only die, this was very different and still it was challenging and great fun!!! 5/5 - Optimus

Nice massive amount of monsters! So much shit coming at you from every corner! Man it almost took me an hour to finish this map since I am slow on some maps, but hey it was fun while it lasted :D The Archviles as always are a pain in the ass in large groups. 4 out of from me!-Candle M

I'm a fan of HR/AV, but: It seems after the first Deus Vult, alot of mappers are going for bigger/more monsters while neglecting the strategical elements that made the aforementioned wads so special. The gameplay here is often too repetitive, and resources are spread too unevenly. G-o-evil and Cybersky from the same author are much better. 3/5

Far too well equipped on UV for this to be a challenge. It is fun however, and can catch you out if you're not careful. Nice looking, big, fun yet easy... I'd say it's a 4* wad, especially as the author has done better.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
