About This File

My first non-crappy level. It's a pretty long map, but for the most part it's fairly linear. Unfortunately, I don't think I'm the best playtester out there, so I worry the balance of ammo/health might not work. In any case, I worked pretty hard on this, so it should be fun.

Not enough graphic details :-P , but for a first non-crappy level it is ok. Now create a high-quality level!!!

Pretty fun to play. It's long, though, and needs texture work. 4/5

This was fun to play, although I kinda agree with previous people on the texture issue. The design was interesting, if a bit monotonous at times. It picked up as it went along, although the texture misalignments remained. It was fun enough that I'll give it 4/5

It was too long for a single level and too easy, but the wonderful thing about giving the player access to all of the weapons is that they can play in their own style and therefore can create the difficulty on their own. Also, the connection between various switches and doors is not logical and is sure to irritate the players. Aside for reducing the length, another perk of having multiple levels is that you can give the end part more appropriate music ;)

A big puzzly level with good gameplay, good layout and some good puzzles. But there were alot of misaligned textures. But I still enjoyed the adventure. This would be have been an awesome map if a bit more work and research had been put into it, aligning the textures and improving the texture choices. 3.5/5 -PC

This is a decent, old-fashioned, large-scale map with 631 baddies spread out over a wide area. Starts off techbase, turns into a borgasmord of styles. It has the misfortune to come out in the same week as Deus Vult II, which is conceptually similar but state-of-the-art. This feels like a 1995 level that has been magnified three times, with texture errors, missing textures etc; it's entertaining in a retro sense, I enjoyed it, but it's a victim of bad timing.

It's ok. Average at best. It's still decent for a first level.

Has some decent parts, but for the most part this level isn't very good. It's cramped and massive and the progression is illogical and mostly pretty linear. It looks all right in parts but the texturing is often clashy and there are misalignment errors everywhere. Not a bad first effort, but definitely room for improvement. 2/5

I thought this map was pretty long, it took a while to finish. Overall it was good, but it could use some more work. 3 out of 5 from me.-Candle M

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
