Kind of an odd hash of levels. The third one, Sleeping Village, had an old-west Stephen King kinda chill to it, and while it was a little lean on enemies, it was a creepy atmosphere. The final colosseum was nice as well, but overall it just misses greatness. Fun play, but not legendary.

I loved it. The realism was effective, the levels were varied and interesting, the new enemies and sounds added a lot as well, and the map was amazing. I can't help but being a little annoyed over dying in the last room, as you can imagine how little my chances of survival were when all the pigs (pinkie demons) started teleporting in >.< This wad's a real gem in my opinion.

Love those ambient sounds! Map04 was scary and interesting. Map05 have already played it in a more recent WAD of the author. The others were nice too. They build atmosphere. 5/5 - Optimus

Hmm, that was pretty interesting. The level design is a bit simplistic and I didn't really like MAP04, but I had fun with this. 4/5

Excellent for a first wad, great for any wad. It plays well, is quite atmospheric, uses new reosurces wisely and just generally makes a good gameplay experience. Balance is pretty good and the overall difficulty makes it a good Episode 1 of a series. 5*

Awesome work right here. The maps were realistic and looking good. Only flaw was, most of the maps are TOO easy, and the Baron room at the end was pretty small. Nevertheless, I like it. 4/5 -Moti

I give it two stars. It's not bad really, but I'm not fond of the seemingly random texture usage, a little too goofy for me. That and I'm just really bothered when people try to make "furniture" in levels. It always looks so fake and square. Level design is okay, it's kind of fun but eh.

4,5 stars over 94 votes? Don't make me laugh! It's looks like a bunch of newbish maps from late 1994, in modern zdoom wrapper. An average wad, at best.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
