About This File

Trivial map for DOOM. I like '94-95 abstract, less detailed maps and has tried to make something similar.

Yeah, really great for an oldschool map. I enjoy such minimalistic maps with yet inspiring rooms and places and atmosphere. The action and secrets are very good too. 4/5 - Optimus

Not nice to look at, no modern design - though, not looking bland. Gameplay is quite good, 3.5(4)/5

wow, really awesome and dynamic... not what I expected. I really liked the largeness of the map and how enemies could attack from anywhere, as well as that one could run through or away from enemies if one opted to. Great work. It was fun seeing one of the hell knights getting crushed after they thought they had cornered me :>

This is a modern level with a 1994 theme. I admire the verisimilitude - it's just like a real 1994 map, with almost no detail, large empty spaces, wandery design, mucho zombiemen and barrels - but miraculously it's fun to play. Even the (thankfully short) dark sewage maze comes across as interesting. It should be sent back in time to 1994 as a model of how to do it. I hope he makes more levels.

Newbie or not, this is fun stuff! I really liked the way it looks, with a fine brownish theme and a nice use of simple lighting and an economy of lines. And it also plays well, as ammo and health are adequate, the monsters attack with some decent traps, and the variation of how much space there is (from large open areas to more confined sections) all bring good balanced play. ~Chain Mail [4/5] (04/2008)

Not bad for a 1994 like map. It does have that old school feel to it. 3/5.-Candle M

Not bad at all. I liked it. The level design is very simplistic, but it's interesting enough to keep me playing. I just wish there was more health packs. 4/5

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
