I looked around the first room and thought I'd have enough ammo and rockets to get me through the first level... ....but I was WRONG VERY WRONG

Not really bad, thinking the original plot. Some good things like "3d floors" here and there... i gave to this 3 stars! Daimon

2 linear mega-slaughter bfg maps with simple layouts, architecture and enough ammo and invulnerabilities to keep you safe. I liked map02 much better and think jumping makes the maps more fun. I feel the end of map01 should have an ammo stash + spheres somewhere near the exit because it gets really tedious running back to the start every time you run out of ammo. Please make more of these maps and expand on the idea.

Just so you know, I didn't plan to release this as a public .WAD, but figured I might as well since I posted it on the Doom Pictures thread. This is not meant to be taken as an example of my level-making, instead refer to map01 of the 1monster megawad. Still I'm surprised people aren't one-starring this thing left and right =) -Mike

I haven't played this, but several subtle clues point me to the conclusion that this deserves one star. First was the glance at the title - definitely a one-star title. Further, I realize what the wad is about : definitely a one-star concept. Lastly, one identifies the paragraph titled 'Description' and 'Additional Credits'. I need not rephrase what is now entirely obvious.

This is much better than nuts. I hate nuts, but this is ok for a black-white monster festival and the name of this wad is so awesome... I give 2 stars... or 3? I'm not quite sure about that, lol. :-P

doesn't work in prboom or chocolate doom - pressing the face wall after the first horde of monsters doesn't open anything... I thought it was pretty fun until the end, having to run back to the start for cells over and over and over and over to kill the remaining hell knights and barons became very tedious. Lots of monsters but an easy map with all of the god mode spheres.

It's okay. Pretty fun actually. Better than NUTS.WAD, but still, this not a good wad either. So i give this a 2/5.

This is dated June 2006. You get two levels, which are basically elaborate variations of the classic NUTS.wad. Map01 has 6413 baddies, arranged so that you meet them in groups of about 500. Given that it's a novelty, I enjoyed it - it has a sense of the absurd. Map02 is similar but with fewer baddies. On an objective level the two levels are better than NUTS, but they're still novelties which aren't novel, and that limits them.

Contrary to the t/nc review, this is NOT crap, and - for that matter - NOT a jokewad, either. It's a blastfest, and a pretty heavy one for that matter, but there's people who enjoy that, so there. (And to the first reviewer: don't rate WADs you haven't played.)

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
