Open area with a few very simple buildings and the usual snipers. Ambiance is not too bad for a '95 map, but gameplay @ UV is plain amateurish, very easy, and gave about zero fun. Overall somewhere between awful and meh, but as author gave the impression of having some ambition: very small 2*.

Not bad. It's kinda fun. I wish the the open areas weren't so bare and boring looking. There should have also been some hallways connecting to some of the buildings. 3/5

It's a good, fast battle stage... however, my only complaint would be that the player can get through all of the monsters before even picking up the first key. Granted, there's not much left to the stage at that point, but it would be nice to have just a little more action toward the end, such as perhaps having a new assortment of monsters spawn in with each key picked up. Overall, not bad. 3.5/5

Nice buildings WAD, I like the hollow building with a door that has no meaning :). Kinda had me running around searching for a key. 3/5 - Optimus

Fair old school stuff. Would have like it to last longer but nice 5-10 minutes anyway. 3/5 for all the nostalgic feelings.

^ LOL the concept of "using a colon" is rather disturbing :-D In what ways? xDXDXD Other than that, ok-ish oldschool map, which however feels familiar...are you sure it was never released before? 3/5 -Maes

^^ (Two Guys above me) Yes yes... This wad is great, makes me want to reinstall DOS again. At the person 3 people above me, Learn to appriete the past, I was born in 1990 but hell, I hate all the modern crap. I spend up to 5hrs playing on my Atari 2600 and roaming on the internet on my 28K DOS Machine. I give this wad a good 4.9967/5 This is a classic and I lurve the master levels.

^^ I think Maes gave it a 3/5 because there was no Cyberdemon in the level. I'm giving it a 4/5 because it was pretty fun oldschool type of level to play. Its a nice, basic outdoor level with several buildings where you must go and get keys and knock down baddies.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
