About This File

a nice beach resort has been infested by Demons. Hey, give them a break too will ya? But now you will have to eliminate them before the next season begins

This is from May 2008, although it feels much older. It's an enormous level with an almost 8-bit style aesthetic that reminded me of The Sky May Be. It has a strange beauty of its own. There are over a thousand monsters, and the author has obviously put a huge amount of effort into the map - it goes on and on and on - but it feels very old-fashioned. I like these epic-style maps, so I enjoyed it, but it's very crude by modern standards.

If one can get over the shock at start AND the very basic architecture AND the uninspired gameplay AND the fact it's frustrating to find a decent weapon while running in circles...like a very low budget version of hr 14. 3/5

This is an ugly level full of blocky buildings and glitchy textures.

A bad city based level, the colors were bad. 1/5.

At first sight I was put off by the symmetry and the shadows, but after putting up with this initial disappointment I found a wad that was very enJoyable albeit slow and frustrating at times. Epic levels like this are hard to pull off and on the whole I thought it was very well done. One advice I have is to strive to ensure smoother flow by creating easier sections in select areas in order to create a natural equilibrium, if you will.

Epic hellspawn infested city, wonderful artistic vision. My only complaint would be that the powerful weapons are given late, which makes the early parts a little tedious. But then I think yeah, these kind of maps shit all over the linear "story-driven" games of today with four enemies max onscreen. It's good to be a Doomer! Fünf güldene Sterne.

absolute garbage and as it goes on it gets worse. I can't even say how bad the tectures are. Terrible. Awful. the amount of monsters and the lack of ammo is also ridiculous. play with suprwep8.deh... vomit! 0/0! UGLY! FUGLY!

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
