So-so, all in all - some of the traps and puzzles were annoying (DOOM is an *action* game, people!), and the mazes were definitely a pain the ass for much the same reason. Also, randomly changes from castle/mansion to a subway theme in the end (a decent-looking subway, at least). All in all - meh, 2/5. There's certainly (much) worse, but it's not ultimately worth playing.

I played this map for a few minutes, and then I couldn't really get into it. I guess it didn't appeal to my tastes. Ah well, I shall give this a 1 star for effort.

I've played this map on 2002, and I really liked it, It wad of the first maps I've ever played in doom when I initiated on doom editing. It was the winner of the Cabro's maps tourney of 2002. - ElRodo

Ok, so I went inside the mansion and at once I thought the 'feel' was disappointing. A few moments later I got crushed, at which point I said, "what lame design." I retried the map. A few moments later cyberdemons crushed me in a weird, random room. Then I said "this is ASS."

I kind of liked this level. It was fairly big, with plenty of interesting puzzles and mazes to keep me entertained. Also, great work making traps to punish the n00bs as well! (picking up BFGs that seem to easy to get to or looking out of train windows when you can hear cyberdemons outside tend to be bad ideas lol) The only one that I didn't expect was the crusher, but it was easily enough avoided. Good work!

I remember downloading this map from Cabro's website years ago. Great to see it in the archives.

I didn't really like this wad. The annoying traps and the confusing layout of some of the mazes killed it for me. 1/5

I don't see anything "terrible" here. The map has some frustrating details, but I found it very enjoyable. --- 4/5

Horrible. Just Horrible. The blood maze is to blame for this! The second segment had virtually no way out. 1/5 Your lucky. The gameplay was ok. There's your star

This is bated May 2002, although the readme says it was done in 1996 (and looks it). It's basically a large castle-style map with a bit of detail, not very much. The gameplay is simultaneously too easy, because you get loads of rockets, and frustrating. The momentum is killed by a dark maze where you have to hunt for switches, which is followed by another, larger maze where you just have to wander around. I don't want to play a maze game, I want to play Doom.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
