About This File

MegaWad is consisting of 6 levels, which were built in "grid 32". This map editor grid was used while making all of these levels. All vertexes lay on knots of a grid 32, and this rule does not extend on things. There is no general style, each map expresses individual style of it`s author. All leves are united by "grid 32", hence the corresponding name of this wad. The original idea of the rules for grid with the 32x32 dimensions introduced by Andrey Budko, aka "entryway". MegaWad also includes new titlepic, interpic and credit by Shadowman, dehacked patch by DoomExpert, new font and menu graphics by entryway and several replaced sprites.

A couple maps were good, but map04 is a bugged bore, and map06 was such a insufferable slog through overly dark and plain hallways that I almost fell asleep. Overall, average at best.

yeah, megawad of six levels, it's longer than even some megawads. MAP06 is an outright slog (WTF Shadowman?) and I couldn't even beat MAP04. Wraith had the best ones, worth playing those but leave the others.

Visually competent and some of the map designs are really neat, but it's just a complete fucking slog to play.

Engh, first level looked really cool, but eventually you get fed up at getting lost and give up. Its too hard, and the darkness makes it 100x more harder. The first level is designed the best, the levels after it are not the best either.

Well I have no idea what the previous two reviewers are on about, decent game-play and plenty, if not too much, ammo. Played in UV -fast and finished with almost full backpack, but only 6% health.

My system cannot handle this (3,2 Ghz)... hm, it's just too slow!

This is dated July 2008. You get six maps based on the same design idea as id=15454, which is better. Map01 is a spooky wood that runs slowly on my i5-2500(!), looks good but not much fun to play. Map02 large but bare, ditto Map03, a dark sewer switch-maze that made me yawn. Skipped to Map06, an absolutely enormous, detailed, but utterly boring and repetitive dungeon that looks and plays like Dungeon Master but longer. Better to study than play.

15454 is better but it is kind of unfair to compare, because this came first. Eternal can improve anything. :) 3/5 for this.

Wraith is king here, especially Map05, Shadowman's Map03 is good too. The other maps aren't so hot, even if they have promise. 4/5 for the good maps.

A very interesting concept. The maps are solid and bugless and fun to play, only lack here IMO was weapon placements. I almost ran out of ammo plenty of times on UV, but it didn't stop me from playing. Worth checking it out. 4/5 -Moti

The first stage while interesting, it's getting too slow with all of the trees. While also missing ammo too frequently. The next are better, kinda big, kinda confusing sometimes, but with some really good ideas and tough action. 4/5 - Optimus

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
