About This File

Another spam map. This is a modified version of the first room of map23 from Drown in Blood, which was originally made in late 2005.

Designed with freelook and jumping in mind. Not designed for bfg aiming.

Squane is the name of one of the cops in the game Road Rash 64.

The level was well-designed and aesthetically interesting, but running about an arena blasting monsters gets boring fast. I could see this being good fun in co-op though. I'd give it a 4/5, but since you wad-bumped I'm deducting a point. :(

Great in coop. Have had fun with Drown in Blood since 2005--if you like lots of carnage and reliance on teammates, then this the map for you. 5/5 Lull

What? The file size of this suddenly just went way down and got replaced by some useless map. Don't know what's going on, but sent an email to the author.

So lame. Needs an auto circle-strafe function.

Not great. It pits you against (initially) 1,515 mostly tough monsters in a circular arena; the arena is fairly simple and symmetrical. The gameplay quickly devolves into running round in a big circle dodging monster projectiles, making occasional forays into the central area to chip away at the archviles. There's a certain amount of enjoyment just from the carnage, but overall it's like masturbating with sandpaper - it gets tiring very quickly.

Or if you actually take the time to scan your surroundings, you can grab the RL and BFG right from the start then proceed to lay wastes to the relentless legions. Plenty of ammo and health makes this an enjoyable slaughter without any frustration, the inclusion of Invuls is even quite generous :P 4/5 - Bloodite Krypto.

You should rename the wad to "BATTLE ARENA", man!? It's quite good, seeing all the demons and the fireballs around there! Haven't finish the wad yet, but it looks really great. Try to use some other music than the Doom music next time for such a battle and everything is fine. 5/5 for this one, man!

boo-urns to the first two reviewers :( there are multiple routes for demoers, plenty of rocket jumping possibilities, secret cyber telefragging, and kinda neat stairs. KINDA NEAT STAIRS. Since the original map from Drown in Blood was designed for coop, maybe squane might be more fun in coop. I dunno. But only 1 star? KINDA NEAT STAIRS. I'm rating this 5 because I zero'ed smedley like 5 times just to bump it. - TimeOfSquane - ps. I'm not gonna stop making these kinda maps.

^ bumping up your own wads is lame, as for the actual level itself... crossfire claimed me quickly quite a bit

^^ Uh, I made both maps, so how is it a ripoff? The dib map totally sucks in single player, so I edited it to make it playable in single player and called it squane. I can't edit my own maps?

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
