About This File

This is a fun level for doom2. You must go through the hallways killing the bad monsters and pressing the switches. When you reach the exit, a huge surprise waits you.

This is awful. Worse than vomit and diarrhea combined.

^ No you didn't download it! - I downloaded it, you fight some Hellknights in a few bland hallways until you reach the exit switch. Pressing it takes you to a Wolf3d like area with a Cyberdemon + BFG. Its quite boring. Avoid. 1 star

You are provided with a super shotgun at the beginning, but you never have enough ammo to kill all the hell knights you encounter. The level is extremely repetitive and boring, and the "interesting" bit at the end is a pretty typical Ruba ending: a cyberdemon with lots of Wolfenstein textures and a John Romero head at the end. 1/5

Ruba's getting way too much attention. Let the ignore begin!

Somehow I like those walls. Their color fit very well with the barons. I also like to kill barons with double shotgun and the ammo was exact (I had to kill the big baron with fists, challenging). The pink sky, mmm.. it's not aligned, pitty it would be a nice sky. The surprise nice. The map, psychedelic 3/5 - Optimus

The mapping errors were the only interest in the long winding corridor. I killed predictably placed hell knights until the variety of a Baron protecting the "exit". Then, a there was a Wolf textured arena with a Cybie, BFG and Romero head exit. Dull and simple yet full of errors. The new sky doesn't even tile. If Ruba enjoyed making it, I didn't enjoy playing it. 31 mins to make? Too long. This is a map to make, mess around with yourself then delete. Not something to release.

Bored and looking for some single player map to play, I went ahead and downloaded this with hardly any great expectations. But when I loaded it up and started to play the game, I was pleasantly surprised to find myself playing what I unashamedly would place among the top five maps I've ever played. The gameplay is slick and variable; there are just so many surprises and so many paths to take, giving you an unprecedented sense of adventure and heroism. This is legendary in my book.

I didn't like the layout/design of the hallways part but I did like the ammo balance, forcing you to use your pistol or fist to finish off a few hell knights. I also liked how the exit switch opened up a teleporter in the side of one of the hallways, taking you to the last room which I also liked. It has a few pillars, bfg/cells, a cyber, and a walkway surrounded by a pit.

Wow! This had something. Maybe the barons were a little hard but if you can find the secret cave behind the trees and be able to beat or pass through the little spiders, lot's of ammos and bazooka are awaiting. Also, I liked the romero head surprise at the end, as much as I loved the joke with the purple imps in the meadow. 4.75/5 for this one - Optimuze

Piece of shit. Square, linear corridors that always look the same, a bunch of sequential hell knight fights, not enough ammo, and finally a Wolfenstein 3D area with a cyberdemon, BFG and tons of cellpacks. Exit is through a Romero head. If you actually play this, you'll waste five minutes of your life.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
