About This File

- Varied style, but all floating in sideral space. - The map has only platforms and columns, so don't fall. There are also some wide areas. - A lot of different textures: hellish, futurist... A little of all. - A Dehacked patch. I recommend you use it, makes the game innovative and unreal. - Some new monsters: * ZOMBIE MARINE: A brown Doom marine. * ROCKET GUY: A zombie soldier with a bazooka, can beat you with only one shot. * ZOMBIE RAILGUNNER: A soldier with a laser weapon. Be careful. * ZOMBIE BFG: Hmm, doesn't need comments... Feel the pain of a BFG 9000's blast. * STEALTH FIGHTER: Transparent sodier/cyborg. - These monsters come, as usual, from ftp://archives.3dgamers.com/pub/idgames/combos (monsters.zip) - Besides the new monsters, I modified some of the original Doom enemies: * Fast imps, attack with the manucubus' fire. * Transparent Lost Souls. * The cacodemons' fireballs are invisible. * The Cyberdemon's rockets (and yours) are destructible. * Increased attack power for arachnotrons. * Etc, etc... - New sounds: * Taking a powerup, item or weapon. * Firing the pistol, shotgun, chaingun or plasma rifle. * Some monster's attacks. * Opening and closing doors. * Destroying Lost Souls.

It was an average map, the platform jumping was a bit tedious, but over all, average. 3/5.-Candle M

Interesting concept, decent execution. Not a "great" map, but unique and worth checking out.

Cool idea. Frustrating to play...it's just not Doom. It's like hopping rocks in an "all lava level" with no rad suit and nowhere to run. Loved the rocket launcher guy. 3/5

I don't the who the second guy is kidding. The gameplay was terrible, like the first guy said. Interesting map, though.

The gameplay is awesome. Just because the person above me has no coordination does not make it bad. I really enJoyed it.

This is June 2006. It's visually interesting - a series of platforms hanging in space - and it plays like an old 8-bit platform game, although you don't have to jump. Whether you like it or not depends on your tolerance for platform games (thankfully "space" doesn't kill you instantly). It's fun but frustrating, and it often turns into one of those memorisation-fests where you have to know which trap is coming up next. Nicely excuted, though.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
