The Sympathiser

About This File

An unarmed but HIGHLY annoying NPC for all DOOM variants, the Sympathiser is a pastiche of bearded bleeding-heart liberals; from the instant that he sees or hears any player, he continually whines about the civil rights of demons from Hell! Heck, their mothers didn't love them!

The sympathizer didn't appear in the wild for me but I did summon him and was reasonable funny and ANNOYING.

Retarded graphics, shitty sounds, over-complicated skript kiddie wannabe code, and encouraging the cold-blooded shooting of unarmed civilians. 0/5

Whoever thinks this guy is meant to be Jewish so we can play an anti-Semitic game of Doom must surely be on drugs. The sympathiser sprites are AFAIK meant to be a generic western middle-class, middle-aged man and not of any particular race. In fact, they remind me of an doctor of my acquaintance who is the epitome of the stereotype English white male with socialist leanings, beard, cardigan and all :)

This is actually funny, I would like to see more odd puns relating to Doom. It's like the Doom @ everyday life or something like that. Fuck this, I'm using this shit.

The coding may seem complex, but it overly complicated just to make him say some whiny things (the sound quality is crap, too). What it does is use a counter system to directly play the sound wanted when the sndinfo file could just randomize a generic sound definition of his active and "attack" sounds and add a chance that no sound will be played by putting "null" on the list. Way too much work was put into something trivial, and a sympathizer to demons would be a satanist.

Politics and doom don't mix so great. And the mixture's even WORSE when the "liberal" you're blasting looks distinctly Jewish, which leaves impressions of the wad's author that I won't bother establishing. Retarded, hyper-polarized shit like this is just a waste of the web server's space.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
