ALONE.WAD

About This File

New level for DOOM based one the house in the game Alone In The Dark. It's designed to be played in Single player mode at difficulty level Hurt me plenty. At easier settings there are fewer monsters, and at harder settings you got more monsters to frag! I haven't forgotten those of you who like to kill your friends (or enemies), of course you can Deathmatch on this level but it's to big to be any fun. Cooperative playing is also implemented. Watch out for QUAKE.WAD on a ftp-site near you soon. This is me and my friends own levels that we use when we get together for deathmatch. It is 6 levels designed to be used as deathmatch with 2-4 players, it's best with 4 players if you like many frags! Also soon QUAKE2.WAD, and HERQUAKE.WAD - this is QUAKE.WAD converted to DOOM 2 and HERETIC. QUAKE2.WAD has an extra level. In the future maybe you will see ALONE2.WAD. This is not Alone In The Dark 2 made as a WAD but ALONE.WAD converted to DOOM2.

The layout does remind of Alone 1, but something's missing (furinture heh). The textures get really repetive as well. The concept isn't bad and considering the age the execution is still acceptable). So far I'd rather think of this as a concept than a full fledged Wad. Someone should really up-to-date this with those Plantation Mansion textures. Has future, but so far, a nice idea. Definitely NOT "avoid! avoid! avoid!!!11" though. -N

Dude, this map was released in 1995, so of course it is gonna be dull! But i still like it. Sure, it could have been better, but the idea was a good one. Hell, i would like to see someone remake this map to qualify to todays standards. All in all, 4 Stars.

Not a bad little map - more interesting than many modern offerings.

I was very disappointed to see fellow KTH student and former DHT regular Jonas being responsible for such a paltry map in terms of design and gameplay. If this is what "Alone In The Dark" looks like... Brrrr! You start out in large, empty, dull wooden halls/rooms and descend into larger, emptier, duller caverns. As if this wasn't enough, the map even contains a (probably unintentional) "reference" to WOW.WAD. Avoid, avoid, avoid. --1/5

Dull, repetitive and boring. The idea isn't bad, but the map hasn't interest.

Lame. No attempt at all to make any interesting architecture at all and the less said about the gameplay the better. Still.... At least there have been attempts in places to have "realistic" lighting

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
