Now you're cooking with gas!!! A decent HR-like 6-map set, with tons of monsters to slay and mincemeat! I didn't find any of the fights impossible, at least not on UV. If anything, it's easy to run out of ammo in one too many places, unless you use infighting/chainsaw/ fist extensively, while in others you get much more ammo than you can use. Also, in MAP06 it's possible to "fall out the windows" into the void >< 4/5 -Maes

Didn't really like it, it's simple, the maps are room after room after room and it's looks like you just throw some random enemies at the player. also everytime you get a key or something there is a teleport trap around it, kinnda boring. im only giving it 2. -SFoZ

Map 2 needs either an obvious rocket launcher or more ammo, and map 3 needs MUCH more ammo. There are some pointless weapon/item traps like the chainsaw and berserk traps in map 6 (you don't even need the chainsaw at all in that map, the trap is completely pointless). Way too many boring, completely square rooms and needs custom music. And it's a demo. 2/5. Fix the ammo issues, pointless traps, add music and it could get 3.5/5 from me, even with those square rooms and ripped off layouts.

Most of these maps are reminiscent of Hell Revealed/HR2. The gameplay in here is a blast for the most part, you won't get bored, I guarantee it. One thing though, some fights were nearly impossible (esp. in map06). Still, this is a great wad. Good to see you improving, Isaac. :) 4/5 - Moti

I like it. Good maps, small to medium in size, and lots of monsters. If you're a HR fan this is a must. That said, I'm tired of Map04's idea and don't think you fooled me in designing Map06 based strongly off AV's Map13. Still 5/5 for the demo. I look forward to the finished product.

I thought it was a bit too easy considering the hr style, but it was gripping. Some of the monster spawns are too obvious; I'm looking at you, map 4. Also, if you're going to dedicate a portion of a map to a previously made one try to contribute something new to it. I agree that these are rather good maps. Cheers.

Part1: I cant believe what I read: AV and HR Influence, though 2/5 ? Too many ripped of ideas? There is a guy, spending hours, days and months of creating these lovely maps and then some 12year-old asshole comes, give his shitty opinion and rate THIS 2/5?? Dude, you did a great job! I play Doom since 94 and I had alot of fun playing your demo (and yesterday we finished the beta version of your finished megawad btw -AWESOME!!!!!

The whole thing is out already, and it sucks. Too many ripped-off parts, sometimes whole levels from HR/HR2/AV are redone, and quite badly. It's really boring to play, the author should scrap the whole thing and start something fresh now that he's learnt how to map. 1/5

The maps feel like an inexperienced level designer is trying to imitate his influences. Big problem I had was finding areas from other wads. Lots of AV, HR 1 and 2 "inspired" areas, and let's not forget map 06 (AV map13 anyone?). Author should focus on making his own creations and not let the works of others who have been doing this for years get to him. 1/5 - Khorus

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
