About This File

I just wanted all doomers to play First Doom one more time. All maps are similar in design and difficulty to their originals, but they are build from scratch. Please, don`t acept it is a plagiarism, it`s just an alternative to such things like Mood, Randoom or modified ID levels..

Awesome!!! Apart from several levels being somewhat mirrored, there are few ones that were done in an entirely new way, especially the secret levels, like this is how it was supposed to be. I'd really hope for a wonderfull doom 2. 5/5 - Optimus

Copy-pasted parts of original design placed in a different order, connected by featureless corridors. Some design differences such as a well-known platform will raise instead of lower. May be of interest to hardcore Doomers, but not particularly challenging or interesting. A pretty ordinary remake. 2/5 --jj

This is a very accomplished total map replacement that boasts genuine original gameplay and non-linear style. I sometimes felt parts of some maps were too similar to the originals, copying secret areas and even items verbatim, but there's enough here to keep you playing and bring all those good old memories back. 4/5 ~ pritch

4/5 Very good, but lacks personal work here and there. Some maps a re too similar to the originals, and some just seem to have their rooms in a different order. Nevertheless good mimicry job. -- ellmo

Way too derivative of the original Doom. Some parts are virtually copy/pasted. Seriously, same traps, monster placement, and overall level design. The differences? Sometimes you go right where you used to go left, some platforms lower that used to raise, blah blah blah. Not very impressive. -Snakes

This is an excellent Ultimate Doom remake. This wad proves you don't need a ton of ACS scripting, gimmicky new monsters, endless and extremely long backtracking and switch/key hunts and T667-esque detailing and level design to make a fun and enjoyable Ultimate Doom remake. This changes the levels up a whole lot, yet it still keeps the simple, old-school, classic charm of the original levels. That's where KDiZD failed. Everyone should play this at least once. 5/5

It's too similar to the originals, and not better either. Still, the maps aren't awful. 2.5 for the effort. BTW E3M9 is supposed to start playing like E3M1, not E1M1. Not sure what's going on with that.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
