Very fun, not over detailed or too puzzle-y, just perfect for those with that insatiable nostalgia for the original Doom, it felt like I was playing the episodes all over again for the first time, as a reincarnation. There's no reason for me not to give this the top score. 5/5 -Aldaraia

The first episode seemed like "Doom for Noobs" to me, even on UV. There are very few monsters, too much ammo, extremely easy-to-find secrets, and no puzzles. I blasted my way through it in less than an hour with 100% secrets (I usually spend more time exploring). I enjoyed episodes 2 and 3 more, although Episode 3 had too much ammo at times also. E3m7 was quite fun, and I found myself wishing it was longer. Overall a good effort, but not epic by any means. 3/5

Where KDiZD tried to reinvent Doom by today's standards, this seems to try to reimagine it by the original standards--and this it achieves in spades. No mapset I have played has more effectively or faithfully emulated the original's style. While today most strive to have the most detail and unique features (and I am no exception), it's refreshing to see someone who sets out to do just the opposite as a tribute to the originals. It's faithful, it's well designed, and god dammit, it's fun. 5/5 -newt

Another vanilla styled megawad for Ultimate Doom! Though I expected this wad to contain 4 episodes (hence the title containing "Ultimate"), it's still a very good wad. The only thing is missing is not only new intermission screens but also the level names when viewing in automap. Nevertheless, this is a very good megawad and in terms of difficulty, episode 3 is definitely hard (I died about 10 times here and once in E2) and I'm playing with Aeons of Death 5.29 (6 sucks BTW). I give this 4/5. -Doomer95

This is the opposite of that sectorfest kdizd, and subsequently deserves a 5 star rating. THIS is reliving the nightmare!

What an excellent set of classic Doom style maps! I can't wait to see what you do with the Episode 4 maps.

Think Doom, but with better texturing, generally larger and harder levels and a little less height variation. That is this wad. 5* -Phobus

Inspiring. Remains one of my favorite WADs to date, and a reminder that going back to basics can produce an outstanding finished product. 5/5

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
