About This File

When I was 6, which was about 11 years ago, I played Doom for the very first time. I played it on the playstion at my uncle's house.I thought to myself, "This is friggen awsome." Because of my young age my parents did not approve of me playing Doom. But that did not stop me. Our vacation ended and so did my Dooming (oh I forgot to mention that my uncle lived in Fargo Il and my parents and I lived in Sioux Falls SD). Or so it seemed. Whenever the time would arise that I could rent Doom on psx, at the movie rental store, I would use it. I would attempt to convince my parents to let me rent it. Usually I would be out of luck. When I was not playing Doom I would pretend on the playground to be the Doom marine and kill imps and demons with my shotgun. I would even put my hands up in front of my face to mimic the doom hud. As I matured I lost need to pretend to be the Doom marine. But the obsesion was still there, I was yet still denied what I wanted most. I began drawing doom maps with pen or pencil on paper. They began very primitive as you might expect. They eventually started to get more complex as I pumped out hundreds of drawings. The only reason I am telling you this is because the map in this file is one of those maps I drew all those years back. I figure that I came up with this one around the age of 12 because thats when I started using a straight edge. What you are about to play was conjured up out of a demented 12 year old boy who's only care in the world was for Doom. Enjoy.

Meh. I *do* like slaughter maps, but didn't enjoy this - it was tedious and quite boring.

This is dated May 2009. It's a large-scale slaughter map with 777 baddies. The layout and design are a bit reminiscent of the old "Reol Tough" maps by George Fiffy, i.e. as sophisticated as a whoopee cushion, with monotonous mono-racial monster mobs and a square layout that resembles an Etch-a-Sketch drawing on the automap. In its favour there's a tonne of action, although it's mind-numbing rather than exciting. You might like that.

This map was so bad that I just stopped playing it. The difficulty is unfair, and the use of color modes is probably the worst and most excessive I've seen, EVER, outside of maybe a jokewad. Not to mention that even without the colors, the map doesn't look half decent. I actually start to wonder if this map is really by darkdave, as it was released within a few days of those infamous uploads.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
