This mapset is provided only for single play. I planned to create a megawad like my early wad "Kobal". But I have made only two maps in that style. "Kobal 2" is challenging enought, but isn't so difficult as first "Kobal". Have fun!

Not bad, although as others have said, it's a bit repetitive - particularly map 02. Passes a bit of time though.

Kind of dissapointed me. I generally admire Shadowman's work (in terms of Russian authors, he probably places second to Eternal), but this and Cheogsh 2 are definitely IMO his two weakest wads in terms of gameplay. And unlike Cheogsh 2, this wad isn't even anything special otherwise; nothing you didn't see in Kobal (1). Oh well, guess sequels aren't his bright point (oops, I have to scrap that because his new sequel, Hellfire 2 (hf2.zip), still only on official sites, is pretty darn good).

Music? Music? I don't need no steenking music. The author actually states this is an easy wad, so the obvious way is UV -fast. A whole new ball-game. 4/5

Cartoonishly-recolor ed imps and those dark red demons in a cross between techbase and gothic wood. Lots of copypaste detailing makes the automap somewhat confusing on MAP02, and the music's pretty odd. Still, the gameplay is solid, if a bit too easy. Worth playing, and gets my vote. 4/5

I liked this enough. Chocolate imps and angry redish demons. Gothic textures. Some nice action. Scary dark waters in level 2. Maybe confusing but not much. 4.5/5 - Optimus

Music and textures are great. Gameplay is not as engaging as I would like it. Level design could have been bolder. 4/5 (I've been really good at math lately)

Love the music!Like the textures and lay-out.But,you did yourself a disservice with the gameplay.[Too easy]I made it through on first run on HMP and I'm old and slow of reflex.Still,3.5[4]/ 5-d.d.koop

      I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

      Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular.       A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

      Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

      I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
