About This File

One level for 'advanced' Boom compatible ports.

Probably it is my vision of nuts.wad. It's easy to play and fun.

You need to have modern computer (Core2Duo+ or similar) and good optimized port with support of hi-res textures in wads and music in OGG format.

GLBoom-Plus 2.5.0.2+ is STRONGLY recommended. Do not use PrBoom-Plus 2.5.0.1 or earlier.

"SkyBox" sky mode and "Fog Based" sector light mode (available in prboom+ 2.5.0.3.test) are recommended and do not forget to enable in-wad hi-res textures. (it's ON by default)

WARNINGS: 1. (G)ZDoom has strange issue with speed. It's 1-2 fps when monsters are sleeping. After awakening it's more or less good, but still 4-20x slower than glboom-plus.

2. Eternity and Boom 2.02 have some issues with tall patches.

3. Classic PrBoom and PrBoom-Plus before 2.5.0.2 have no support for hi-res textures in wad - do not use it.

MUSIC: NoMeansNo - "1985 - You Kill Me" - Long Days. Hope it will not be banned because of this 24 years old song.

Great fun. Bleak, metal-driven style over fairly easy substance, which is a good thing. I can see the song getting annoying in a more challenging map.

Pretty fun map if you want some quick, easy slaughter fun. Just sucks a bit that you can just cheese the whole thing by leaving the arena and running around at the edges of the map. Cool to play with gameplay mods tho!

Music is alright but it does get a little annoying after a while.

Possibly the quintessential easy slaughtermap. Inspired by Nuts, it fields nearly 9000 monsters, and serves as a reminder that raw monster count isn't particularly relevant to a map's overall difficulty. Of course, it's also really good. Try it.

Nuts, sculpted in a drowsy, apocalyptic image.

I'm not quite sure where you end and I begin, but I wouldn't change that at all.

there's a lot of space on the outside, so getting the huge horde enemies to infight is really easy to do by running along the outer circle, that's if you can handle the massive lag spike.

Simple slaughtermap consisting of an open area and some towers, having @ UV 8888 + a lot more = about 10K monsters. The totally 1-dimensional gameplay consists of the usual creation of infights. If you're one of the few who like this cup of coffee, then give it a try, else skip it. Overall despite the shown technical skills very small 2*, because this is a very cheap map with gameplay which is plain uninteresting.

Yay got about 2 fps before the monsters saw me, and when I started shooting immediately slowed down to about 1 frame in 3 seconds! But the map itself does look pretty cool, so it'd be 4/5 but that music annoys the hell out of me, so just 3/5

Fun. It's not a hard map, especially if you're not aiming for max kills, but it still fills you with wonder and fear like maps of this sort should. Ran flawlessly on Glboom-plus_fast 2.5.0.2 with help_friends off on this old rig. -Creaphis

Pretty map design, but outstandingly stupid gameplay. 0/5 for gameplay failing to live up to the potential of the map design.

This guy normally produces maps in the 'decent to excellent' range. This however, his latest offering, is one of those stupid joke wads with 8888 monsters in one large arena (nuts.wad ilk) that, even on my powerful PC the slowdown renders it unplayable. Come on Mr Deadall, you (and everyone else) know you can do better. 3/5 -2.999/5 = 0.001/5

Nothing special. The fights are boring, and except for looking a little surreal the visuals aren't anything to write home about. This is more of a lazy "Dali Doom" experience than anything else. 3/5

Despite the 8888 monsters, this wad is really easy but what is awesome is how Eternall has placed those monsters in a Nuts fashion without generating an annoying gameplay. Details are cool too. 5/5 - K!r4

This is Awesome. I love this like B.PR.D's Nuts 3! 4/5 (I used the anibus and notarget cheats in the console to speed frame rate lol).

It's un-playable on my AMD X2 3600+,8600GT with GZDoom 1.4.3, it give me 1 fps all the time.(I know this wad needed glboom-plus, but NO, I won't download that just for play this nut-style wad. :() And I fail to understand why make this wad for GLBoom-plus only? Show that port is awesome to handle this shit? NO, it just a ****ing epic fail, IT'S DOOM, not SERIOUS SAM or somethings like put shitload of enemies on the map. Even this WAD still has some good points on it. 2/5 >_< -playerlin

This is not what you are here to make, Eternal. You are one of my favorite mappers. Use your talent wisely instead of having to make some type of Nuts ripoff. And on that hand, I'd really like to see another (serious) was from you soon.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
