Best WAD I've played this year. This reeks of atmosphere and is such an improvement over the first one. The transitions between the clown dimension and reality are much smoother and isn't as dull as the first. The new enemies are great, I haven't seen them all but I can't wait to progress further to find out what freaky shiz is in store for me. Oh and, TITLEPIC of the year anyone? - Cutman

Hmm, could be a great Halloween special. Works with Skulltag as well.

^There is something called skill level, and this wad has it. I finished it in UV and was hard, but there a lot of wads harder.

I only just started the level when I saw how dark the skies and the atmosphere was. Then I found some bloodied skull thing in the corner of a yard and thought "that's gonna wake up, I know it" Shat myself and quit immediately.

Yeah, yeah, nice... but it's a puzzle level. Folks, DOOM is an action game!

Constantly crashed for me on both Zdoom and Gzdoom. It has the atmosphere, i admit that. but without being able to play it fully, and im sure im not the only one having a crash. I love this authors other maps though. just wish i could play this one =(

Pretty good, scary in places, mostly creepy and a few shockers. Fits in with the last happy time circus. Enjoyed some of the zdoom effects and the one-time teleports that temporarily send you to the clown dimension. Also loved the Doom telephone poles complete with transformers. A little long and has a lot of exploration. 3 stars -z34chris

This is, without a doubt, THE SCARIEST wad ever. PROTIP: play on GZDoom with all the shader settings and texture filters and whatnot at max, effects volume raised up to .7 or .8, sector lighting mode set to "Doom", crosshair turned off, and HUD entirely hidden. Prepare to shit bricks.

When I first saw this, I thought it was another demented, twisted carnival like the Happy Fun Time/morbidly twisted carnival and made by the same person. Let's just say, I've now have gotten a fear of carnivals and clowns all together again.

I had to manually fix the rabbit Fluffy so it spawned an actor which revives the rabbit, therefore still allowed it to be shootable, and could still trigger the script to banish it to hell. It does take time to figure out, but overall, it's just this big-ass lovable clown-murdering simulation that just makes me go nuts, especially when the mobs start to come out from many places at certain checkpoints. 5/5 -Major Cooke

its awesome but I got to a certain point in the level and Gzdoom crashed on me don't know exactly what caused it. What sucks about that is I forgot to save my game cause I'm so used to those autosaves and there weren't any. What I did see was epic though loved the tribute to Evil Dead II and Killer Klowns from Outer Space two of my all time favorite movies. It would be perfect if you added some autosaves that way in case Gzdoom crashes you won't have to start all over again.

I'm not afraid of clowns. Regular ones, not the creepy as hell ones in this. Nice move on scaring the players by making a monster that is out of their control to kill (I sometimes have nightmares of something that can kill me in god mode and can't be hit, only time freeze also didn't work against him). Scarier than the last, scariest of them all. I also liked the evil dead references. It was a nice, well-deserved comic relief.

This was one hell of a long level but excellent detail. I like the suspence and creativity. Unfortunately, when playing it on Skulltag, that giant bunny rabbit head that bounces around is annoying after you kill it the first time and can't die the second time. It kept getting in my line of site. But overall, I think this was a good wad. Just need to fix that rabbit head and it will be even better. Not bad at all. -Alando1

This wad is not frightening because there are only like 1 or 2 "screamer monsters" (darn rabbit head), but it does manage to startle the player 'cause of the dark atmosphere and the creepy moments in the alternate dimension. The new weapons and enemies are awesome, but this level is TOO DAMN BIG AND INTRICATE. I haven't finished it yet, but i've already spent 3 hours on this wad. But it's okay, it is a lot better than the first one. 4/5

I voted 5, but how do you beat that rabbit head? I played in zdoom 231.

The rabbit is killed taking it to the portal. Along with Unloved, the best horror-wad I've seen, much better than the first part, which was also very good. The sound and the traps are frightening. You are a master Shitbag 6/5

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
