About This File

Planet Phobos brings you a hole Episode of new levels in the classic layout of the Doom-episode "Kneedeep in the Death"

This pwad for DOOM includes 10 maps. Nine of them are stored as episode #1, called 'Planet Phobos'. The tenth map replaces E2M9.

1) CHECKPOINT 2) COMMAND BASE 3) CONTROL SQUARE 4) STORAGE 5) PHOBOS REFINERY 6) PHOBOS ODDITY 7) PRODUKTION PLANT 8) LAST OBSTACLES 9) PHOB'S END Only one tip. Do not enter that red elevator until you got powerful weapons and some ammo for them.

10) LAST PRAYER The former secret mission of 'Planet Phobos' . I moved it to E2M9. So start episode 2 level 9 if you want to play it.

I implented Deathmatch Mode. But notice that this Episode was NOT designed for it. Never the less I guess these missions are not to worse for deathmatch. But it is not a very good idea to play a Coop-game. The hallways and rooms on some levels are so narrow and so small that you would shoot up your friends all the time. That would turn the game in a kind of deathmatch. So why not play deathmatch right from the beginning.

not bad, old-skool feeling, but that last map (E1M8) was a troll with the secret rooms.

Dunno what the whining is about - these are superb. Whatever errors may have been present appear to have been fixed. Runs flawlessly in Doomsday. Going into the "worth a replay" folder.

Inescapable death pits with medikits inside. Misaligned, monotonous textures. Raising platforms made in such a way that you can easily trap yourself by activating invisible linedefs in the "wrong" order. Bland and mostly flat architecture. It's obvious there has been much effort, and if you can look past all these flaws it can be worth playing through, but it would have been so much better with some outside playtesting. The custom intermission screen is rather nice.

Despite some errors and being not very original, it's worth a play for those who like the ol' E1 series look-and-feel. 3/5 as an encouragement.

I think people should play all the way through this before they review it. This wad definitely has a lot of noob errors in it, but for me the author's cool ideas shine through and more than make up for his beginner mistakes. This is his second wad, guys. I really enjoyed this and think the author has a bright future if he decides to stick with it and doesn't get bombarded by negativity, which I see a lot of in this community. -Stormwalker

I agree with the "bombarded by negativity" 3 spaces above. I think this world today is way too negative. This episode is fairly good.... good enjoyable classic gameplay and level design. It has been released before. We don't see enough wads like this, everyone wants detail, hell revealed gameplay. I want more real Doom wads.

^Yes it has been released before, at id=12535 (pho_outp.zip). I'm not even sure this version has any changes, besides the name, but maybe I'm missing something. Anyway not a bad classic style episode.

first wad or one hundred first, bright future or dim obscurity, etc - simply by now this stuff is very unpleasant for playing. **

Not as well done for gameplay as its counterpart (Planet Hell) but it can still be fun, if you are starving for nostalgia or just bored. Both episodes only have okay architecture, so can't really justify more than 3/5 here while PHell gave me enough entertainment for a 4*. Again, though, it looks like a duplicate release, see id=12535! I don't really see why an author would re-release his own work just to change the name, plus you should mention that so the files under the old name are removed.

It feels very cramped. The ceilings need to be taller and your hallways wider. The flow wasn't very good either, good maps get you a key and lead you back to where you need it without backtracking. There was good use of barrels and nice secrets. The flooding level was a very nice gimmick. Its not a total failure. With some work it can be improved to be great.

Looks promising. By the way, Phobos is a moon, not a planet.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
