An impressive, high-resolution mod for GZDoom & Skulltag (make sure you have updated it's binaries!) utilizing all of its lighting capabilities to make for a "lite" Doom 3-like experience. The game comes in either English or Portuguese instructions, hence it's Brazilian origin (the file is also hosted at BRDoom). It's very well-made and the author should be praised for his efforts in making an atmospheric mod.

Now this is what I would call a perfect .wad! Absolute impressive! I like the look and design of the levels. And Yeah, this F.E.A.R. atmosphere and shocking moments fits perfectly. I was really frightened when this girl appears right behind me when I picked up the energy-cells under the stairs! Awesome! More of this plz^^. 5/5 btw.: a bit more ammo would be useful^^. -unidenti7ied

^Clearly design wasn't the biggest focus here. Reminds me of Painkiller. Very good!

Gorgeous eye candy abound, let down by linear gameplay, repetitive map design, and the tendency to get cornered too easily. Otherwise, top stuff, Logan, worthy of a Cacoward easily.

Basically Painkiller gameplay with Doom 3 environments and atmosphere. Except cramped, claustrophobic environments and Painkiller-ish encounter design aren't a good match... not at all.

Just another stupid and boring newschool gzdoom wad. It's plays like shit. And i don't understand how you all can enjoy this. Doom is dead, long live gzdoom? 1/5 only for the music.

Hey Logan, those 3 years were insanely well used, used to scare the fuck out of me in some parts, I was tense in some parts too. Also, It's challenging, in the parts when you show a sort of stave in the screen and a bunch of monsters appears from everywhere I died so many times, Good job! :) 5/5!

I have to say, being a fan of doom 3 makes this all that much better. However this loses points for regenerating health. Cuz we all know that's how life works, sit behind a wall AND POOF! Good as new! Other than that, the atmosphere is awesome and the music rocks.

very claustrophobic fights and uncomfortable situations, it's not even classic. as someone said earlier the automap is gone without iddt and the regen is cheeky, but actually essential because the wad as a whole is just uncomfortable. not a fan of the sliding zombies or the excess gray everywhere either.

Very weak mapdesign. Nothing can compensate for this.

Dear god! Forget the difficulty... that blue girl scared the s**t out of me just like Alma does to you in FEAR your first time through. I grabbed a plasma cell pack under the staris, turn around, and BOOM! The all you see is a darkened blue "ring girl" face...

Goddamn, couldn't the gameplay be something other than picking off high level monsters literally one by one in long and geometrically uninteresting hallways with no other option for 5 entire maps the entire way through? As if run of the mill SSG spamming wasn't enough, the author had to push it to ludicrous heights with a Quad Barrel Shotgun with even more stall time than any other weapon in the mod.

Very linear, but that's not a bad thing here. A streamlined experience, atmospheric and to the point : shooting tons of monsters with completely silly over-the-top weapons. What more could you ask for ? 5/5

the maps are too dark. health regen is ok since there is not much meds/stims. archvile is unkillable. I don't think there was a ios boss. The music could interfere with surprise battles. This is not a 32+ map wad. Screen resolution can destroy text. Tele monsters aint really my game style, but silent tele in hidden rooms work for me (so speculators can't help). ~3/5

The HQ textures are are dark and grungy, just like those of Doom 3, and the lighting effects are great (dark and eerie). I liked that the music wasn't constant, and the use of ambient sounds was just as effective at creating an atmosphere. However, the gameplay lacks creativity, as it's a bunch of very predictable slaughter attacks lined up. It got boring and predictable quickly. Also the maps are very geometric and flat, thus making the gorgeous tech textures and lighting go to waste. 2/5

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
