About This File

13 levels for any limit removing port

Map01 was made for First Demo Contest on iddqd.ru

Maps 2, 3, 11 and 13 are from Speed Map Contest on iddqd.ru. Each of them is made within 4 hours. Yeah, map13 too. Do you believe it?

Maps 7, 9 and 12 were made for Plutonia2 and were rejected. Map07 is retextured.

it's just mind-blowing how Eternal makes such good maps in good time.

Unsurprisingly, even the Eternal's speedmaps and rejected maps from community projects are well worth playing.

Nice looking but dull to play maps with eww sprite recolors and pointless sound replacements. 3/5 altogether.

^Pretty well said. I actually thought 10 and 11 were my least favorite maps, but they were still pretty good and it's probably just my taste. 5 and 6 are definitely the most simplistic/unspecial maps in here (along w/ 4, potentially). But every map had it's qualities, none were bad or even mediocre. And that Map13 was made in 4 hours just blows my mind. 5/5

Some good maps, but some weak ones as well. The graphics/sounds replacements range from pointless to laughable (such as the bandanas on zombies).

Another brilliant masterpiece by Eternal. Maps 05 and 06 were weaker IMO, but otherwise this is a must-play. Plutonia 2 rejected maps? Vrack/Eternal Doom themed space bases? I say yes. 5/5 - Moti

Some maps are great, but some hasn't got the right flow. Anyway I really love Alex's style. 4/5 - Damned

Applies the medieval immersion of Eternal but rips out the convuluted puzzles. A diverse set, ranging from non-linear base to linear levels enhanced by excellent use of height variation and contrasting layouts, combined with strategic enemy placement and intelligent traps avoiding any repetition. Mixed with a few slaughter fights providing a broad difficulty scale, Eternal never fails to combine both unparalled aesthetics and addictive gameplay, an outstanding mapper of unrivalled ability. 5/5 - B.Krypto

You see, by speed-mapping he means that the rest of the community decided it wasn't fair to the rest of the mapping community for Eternal to make maps with no time limit, so to level the playing field he was limited to 4 hrs for a few maps, until they realized that it didn't matter, cause his maps, even with a time limit, are better than most in the community. Map 13? 4 hrs.? If you are on crack or Eternal, that IS possible, lol. Wonderfully done!

Whilst Eternal's "Eternal Doom" themed maps aren't my favourite of his, I did enjoy this wad and found it a blast to play overall. Was also amazed at how large some of the maps were given the 4 hour-per-map thing. As usual - very impressed and looking forwards to more. 5* -Phobus

^ In those speedmapping contests all participants were given a specific theme (nature, hell, city, base, etc), so they couldn't just send random maps they made before. Also, 5/5.

A set of different maps. Too different for a megawad as a solid thing.

Most maps are ok as single levels, but don't work that well as a megawad, and sometimes 'suffer' from lame use of well established doom clichees. Some were also very laggy, which shouldn't be the case in a 16 years old game. 3.5 exceptionally mercifully rounded to 4

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
