About This File

Into Hell is intended to be an episode of levels that take you deeper and deeper underground, until you find a crack in the Earth and dive into the realm itself. BUT... this was originally going to be a 11 maps. Then my comp. got a virus and I didn't touch Doom for about 3-4 weeks. There'll be a part 2, I hope. Not for a while, but there will be. I'm still trying to get a handle on mapping, and the last 2 maps aren't like anything I've tried before, so I hope they turned out okay. Anyhow, hope you enjoy! The story is provided in the level descriptions.

Lovely maps. I'm honestly not sure what the previous reviewer's problem is, either (there's many maps with open spaces for those that prefer that, and these weren't even particularly claustrophobic to begin with, certainly not more than any of the original id Software maps), but I enjoyed them a lot, myself. The only complaint is that there were only three - this should've been a 32 level megawad. ;)

These maps were fun, and the difficulty seemed about right. My only complaint is that there are textures which look like switches which aren't switches, but for me that's just a nitpick. I'm looking forwared to the full wad, whenever it may get done! 5/5

This was pretty good fun. The only real problem I had was the first time I played map 3 the cyberdemon didn't teleport away so I was like WTF?

Pretty darn good. Nice lay-outs with good monster placement and ambushes. Good flow to the progression with the action circling back through the main area. Getting better-keep mapping![But first,do your"homeowork"!]- 4*

Map02 has a bug - a good deal of monsters stuck in the wall that won't teleport. Still, fun overall. Nice layouts. 4/5

that lift lowering at the end was trippy as shit! gave me the strangest sensation. Excellent set of maps. Best rendition of Hell I've seen a very long time.

Yet another dull and claustrophobic space. I am beginning to suspect that practically every Doom wadder out there has never known the thrill of wide open spaces. It's always gotta be corridors, hallways, sewers, pits, prison cells. Sheesh... 2/5

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
