About This File

A pretty harrowing affair. Be sure not to waste your ammo -- there's barely enough to go around. And if you see an Archvile coming for you when you're not ready, go ahead and flee. There may be some unexpected aid whence you came.

really this is fucking awful, really horrible texturing, bad layout, not-so-good placement. also the weapon placement was weird too. still, isn't worth a play.

Long ago since I've seen a map as poor as this one. Totally amateurish and unambitious with simplemost layout, only a few textures used, no decoration, no ambiance, random monster placement without any leitmotiv, and gameplay which could have been from end 1993 - those experimental days in which mapping as-is looked more important than the result of it. As this was made in 2010, I seriously would advice author to find another hobby. 1* only because it isn't a terrywad. /nofi

Got a Feel of early 90's maps..basic design and non-smart secrets..some traps are nice esp near end...but nothing special imo

I actually like it for some challenges it had, especially near the end with the two archvilles. I barely did it there (although after save-load and strategy change). 3.5/5 - Optimus

Fairly challenging, and quite time consuming compared to a lot of the author's other work. It did feel overly primitive for the most part, with only the ending area really seeming to have required some thought. 3* -Phobus

I'm willing to bet that the one person who gave it 5/5 is the WAD author. Not complete shit, but still pretty bad. You can skip this one 2/5

It's not the most boring map I've played, but it's way too random. Author has it right releasing on Doomworld but badly badly needs to learn to accept criticism on fronts of texturing and monster placement. Part of it is that the main tester, Phml, seems to have really high tolerance for this type of stuff, so Chris really needs to try and get more testers, but he also needs to learn how to learn from criticism, and not just say, "I'm not interested." 2/5

I will admit, it is a bit more elaborate than what he usually makes.

Good challenging map, but nothing special. Even the hard mode version of this map. Looks like a 1995 noob map without mis-alignment textures. 2/5 -playerlin

Excellent map, there are some serious half-wits here to rate this so low. 5/5

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
