About This File

A small megawad consists of 3 maps in Limit Removing format. The Hell invades in our reality, so, get ready your shotgun and kill them all. I have created the wad to the 5-year anniversary of my mapping, started in april, 12, 2005.

This is well worth an hour or two of your time. Quite a few old favourites of the Doom bestiary are absent (no Cyberdemon, SM, Arachnotrons, Mancubi, Barons, Hell Knights, Pain Elementals or even Lost Souls as far as I could make out, even on UV), but it still manages to be an interesting challenge because of its good level design and visuals.

Ammo is very much at a premium throughout, and it'd help enormously if you can find a way of getting the chainsaw near the start of the game (I never managed to), otherwise you'll probably need to make some use of infighting and the odd barrel or two.

Very enjoyable 3 map wad, that manages to have a consistent theme throughout. Not too easy, not too hard. It has some good surprises. It's more detailed than an average doom map, but that adds to the atmosphere. Gameplay has some chaotic moments as the ammo is tight, but that means finding it is that much more rewarding. Low enemy count, but they are well placed as to keep you moving. The size of the maps is just right, each map has a definite idea, that doesn't get expanded too much as to get confusing. 5 stars just to get the rating up. 4/5 maybe if you start nitpicking on the chaotic nature of the fights.

What a surprisingly great set of small maps. It's actually a pity that the maps are small and only 3 in total, because overall the quality is high. The gameplay may be a bit slow and monster encounters are rather simple, but at least it ends with quite an enjoyable endfight. Throughout those 3 maps you can see nicely detailed and well textured mine shafts and outdoor areas that look really cool.

A welcome surprise.

Ah this looks interesting, a map with a bit of feeling, and it shows really, the map has a fantastic design and an excellent atmosphere, quite realistic and very incredible, I loved that attractive aspect of the map, however, the gameplay it's slow and very simple, if it were the first 3 maps of a megawad it would be great, but it's only 3 maps, so I would have added more enemies giving it a bit more difficulty, even so, the maps are fanstastic, map 2 is very incredible and I had never seen a map of that style, if it had a better gameplay, this was a 5 out of 5.

That was a really cool mapset. I love the level design in MAP03. MAP02 was pretty cool, but a bit confusing to navigate. I wish there were more maps.

A pretty good mapset. My only problem is that the author needs to learn that 3 maps does not qualify as a megawad in any way, no questions asked. Especially considering the size of these maps isn't huge to begin with. But the maps themselves are good.

The maps design (1&2) is very good, but gameplay don't like me. Also too short and easy 3/5

Megawads have 15 or more maps, not 3.

Why is this rated 3.5/5? This is 5/5 kind of stuff right here. 5/5 ~Joe Anderson

I like these levels a lot. They aren't the hardest, but they're unique little romps with a few surprises and some great architecture/design. Fun and sweet.-GreazyShorts

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
