Obviously Silent-Hill inspired, not that it's a common theme in Doom maps or a bad thing. The levels are excellent, the ambiance is unsettling, and it's technically brilliant. The layout is complex, yet easy to navigate, and the hub system is clever. 5/5

Haven't rated it yet, huh... While some parts are bollocks (most notably the chapel fight, greatly undersupplied so bringing heavy artillery asap for infighting is required) and the overall design is mostly a series of corridors - it's quite pleasant, atmospheric and surely memorable, even though darkness forces to increase gamma correction. Also, for once it's a wad that uses decorate monsters well enough, even in large quantities.

Beautiful is the best word I could ever pick to describe this WAD. Only one gripe: the ending was about as bad as Borderlands'. Here's 5 stars and some good luck making a terrifying sequel!

I'm not sure what to think about this one. Superb wad in many ways, clearly a lot of time and effort went into it. I'm quite sure about one thing though: I wouldn't be able to finish it without a walkthrough. I never was a fan of Hexen and it is really obvious that was a major inspiration, from approach to hub design to map layouts. Trust me, all that scariness and mood is quickly replaced with a headache once you end up endlessly backtracking, or often checking YT to find out what to do and where to go.

Legacy of Satan 2. Thematics paint square corridors and endless doors. Arena fights mean stale combat (start was ok). Progression is mindless wandering through the hub maps looking for key doors. Did the author really get permission from Lustmord, Aphex Twin etc. for the music? "Authors may NOT use the contents of this file as a base for modification or reuse. Permissions have been obtained from original authors for any of their resources modified or included in this file." Big heh here. 1/5

This wad, is simply amazing... You don't understand until you've played it, but the author seems to have really cared about the overall experience of this level set. It has a unique feel, more creepy than any other wad that claims to be, and all that while maintaining an original game-play that is top notch. The best among the best 5/5 without question. Enjoy :) I know you will... GREAT JOB AUTHROR! Your attention to detail, hard work, and diligence has not gone unnoticed here!

Realm667 custom monsters are just overpowered amateurish recolors and most of them don't fit at all with this mod to begin with. It's not because he ripped them, it's because the resources he borrowed sucked. If he had recoded the monsters himself so that they were more tolerable, I would have rated this wad higher. As such, this wad isn't as good as it could have been because I am constantly bombarded with overpowered bullshit to the point that I can't enjoy the other parts of the levels.

This is the creepiest Doom WAD I've ever played! I was on the edge of my seat the entire time! The music is eerie, the lighting effects are chilling, the plot is engaging, and it's so involved! It was some quickie run-through, and I like that. It required you to think your way through the game, to pay attention, and to remember things. Definitely a top-notch WAD that's destined to become a classic. I hope there's a sequel because that ending sure left me wondering!

Enjoyed it very much--apart from the cool atmosphere and interesting hub traversal theme (obviously patterned most directly on Silent Hill 4: The Room), there's some very effective traps and a lot of use of large groups of smaller demons (read: so it still feels like DooM, action-wise). Here's to a sequel. --TDotW

Definitely worth playing, but this is too confusing in too many spots. Definitely the most atmospheric wad I've ever played to date, and makes good use of the GZDoom rendering engine. Like a lot of OMGFLASHYGRAPHICS projects though, the gameplay part really sucks - the challenge is not the monsters themselves but how often you get lost. I like this, but it could be better.

I was lost occasionally, but felt it played fine otherwise. Gameplay: 7/10. The architecture and atmosphere are what light this fire up though. You need to have shaders off or it's pitch black a lot of the time. It really immerses you; a real mod and not just wad. The ambience and atmosphere are undoubtedly about as close to perfection as you will find, a sure 10/10 here. I do have to knock it down to 9/10 for the confusion, but without an option for this rating I really think 5/5 is justified.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
