About This File

av2map20.wad is a remake of the starting area from AV.wad MAP20, built only using my memory, after not having played that map in a couple years. The remake pokes fun at how two of the player starts are placed behind impassible lines, trapping those players at the start. So, maybe you can think of the remake as a special mission for the trapped players.

av3map20.wad is an incomplete remake of the rest of AV.wad MAP20, built only using my memory. The last time I played that map was when I recorded a speedrun of it, so I had trouble remembering all of the rooms and how they connect to each other. I decided to give up before building everything I remembered, since I would just run into a mental dead-end. There is no gameplay in this remake, just rooms.

It's totally playable. You have to run along the outer rim of the map and get the invul spheres to avoid the archviles' web of lies, like in the demo. When they're dead, get the spiders out of the way and then clear the cyber horde. Each section of switches has a pattern, and certain switch textures tell you where the next switch is. If you want to play my maps properly, learn them. Btw, map is boom compatible, not zdoom.

I can't get really fun on it even I play with GZDooM with sv_fastweapons 1 or 2 cheats and get stuck again after killed 7000 enemies. Idea not bad, but I have no idea why make shit like this? Just killing shitload of monsters and nothing... I don't know, but I must say, it sucks for me. 1/5 -playerlin

This was kind of a joke, but it's still totally playable. It's another endurance map. Mapping from memory is hard but fun.

Meh. I like blastfests, but I really dislike switchhunts; TOD maps usually take both to an extreme, which makes it difficult to give them a fair overall score. That said, this one isn't a particularly good or interesting blastfest, and the architecture is lacking, too, so all in all, it's not exactly a great map.

that was stupid. its just the beginning of map20 with around 6000 enemies that spawn out in the front of the pyramid. complete garbage. 0/5.

a little overstated, ha? after 5 minutes it becomes so boring. 1 million enemies and 1 million switches to take. phh, that's a fun map to me.

This is dated February 2010. It's a loose remake of the pyramid level from Alien Vendetta, but with 5767 baddies instead of 498, and you get a BFG with infinite ammo. Is it ten times better? No, it's essentially unplayable; the mass of archviles throw you into the air, and even if you perform a prodigy of valour the actual gameplay resembles something from the early 80s, e.g. Galaxian, Sinistar etc. Fun for about three minutes and I suppose there is that.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
