About This File

This is my first completed level, but it's about 10x the size of anything I ever made :o (and has a beginning and an end :) It just kept growing until it had a finished/"closed" layout, so i tried to make something sensible out of it :)

The theme i started experimenting with set the map mostly on a grid of 32, but there's some finer detail here and there. (altough this is nowhere as odd and unusual as the "real" grid 32 maps)

Partly inspired by E1, the Grid 32 map(set)s, and MAP01 of "No Rest for The Living"

Looks best in GZDoom GL mode, with dynamic lights enabled but it plays just as well in PrBoom+. (Note: you should raise the sound channels above 8 in PrBoom, because the ambient sounds sometimes cut out other sounds)

Awesome map...a techbase out of stock texture...bit complex but layout is good enough to memorize..new sounds effects gets monster sounds mute at times..refreshing lightning, gameplay is balanced not trap oriented rather classic..for a first attempt this map is Extraordinary...

Very nice base themed lvl, with some good ideas, detailing and monster placement, i liked the enviromental sounds and liquid splash effects, good job, the only thing i didn't understand is why there's a biohazard suit in one secret while there wasnt any damaging floor around, and damaging a revenant gave bullet pufs instead of blood effects, other then that 4/5 -Archy-

Great map that has no dull parts whatsoever. The game play is just the right challenge, although there was a bit too much ammo toward the end. I found myself admiring all the detail in this map!

Nice use of stock textures. 5/5, because combo breakers are fags.

Enjoyable - very good texturing and monster placement. The switchback layout leading back thru previously cleared areas allowed for some mean ambushes and gave the linear layout a nonlinear feel. Could have used a little rounding of corners here and there for that bit of visual polish but other than that a very good submission period 4/5

This was great, but next time PLEASE don't put annoying environmental computer sounds in? They are louder than the actual gameplay and even cause glitches which make in game sounds like shooting delayed and sound annoying! This is your first map and is was very well constructed and had a nice layout and decent gameplay to boot, so 5/5 for me. :)

Architecture: compact, detailed retro techbase with a great look-and-feel. Gameplay @ UV: at a couple of places a challenge, but never unfair; monsterplacement is balanced, and there's imo a bit too much ammo & health. Overall: excellent first map - 4/5.

Wow! Not just amazing for a first level, but also so many nice ideas, ambient sounds. Also good ammo balance, cool sound/gfx and even fx replacements (the screen shaking surprised me), well connected rooms, many great stuff in one. This is not just great for a first level, it's more than that! 6.5/5 - Optimus

Boy, that was a mean sumbitch. It doubles back and reuses the space really well, and while linear, it never feels forced. I thought I was kaput on ammo numerous times, only to find a box of shells or a crate of bullets right when I was spent. Just a super, solid level that feels like old-school kickass Doom fun.

This totally surprised me how good it was - for a first map. Indefinitely worth 5 stars, I'd wish the author makes more.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
