About This File

The Nadir is a short (~2 hours) Hexen adventure that aims to extend the experience once the vanilla game and expansion end. I found myself wanting to play more Hexen after completing these, so the result wasThe Nadir. This is a project I created as a personal goal and for my own enjoyment, but decided later in the creation process that I would share it with others who enjoy this game and user-created material.

The level design isn't bad. Pretty standard Hexen-style stuff. Some of the visuals / settings are pretty cool. Although texture misalignment could have been a LOT better, considering it's for ZDoom. The new crossbow weapon was pretty cool, but the new melee weapon was useless. Also the author should've incorporated their ammo count into the HUD (you only see it when you switch to them). Most most of the new monsters were annoying (especially the poisonous golems with their poison clouds). The final boss battle really sucked, the arena was awkward to move in and his attacks / patterns were overly confusing. He constantly sends out homing projectiles that don't actually harm you, cluttering the battlefield and making it difficult to tell what's going on. I think this wad would've been solid if it just stuck to classic Hexen monsters.

Slopes looked out of place here - every sloped surface could have been replaced with stairs. The only enemy I really didn't like was the Acid Golems, and the power of the Dark Gargoyle's fireball was far too great for its size. I find it is truer to the Hexen feel with its back-and-forth between levels design than many wads that have more levels than this. The new melee weapon I barely used while playing as the Mage though.

dylux: Too short. Trying to figure out where 4 MB of this file went because it wasn't on gameplay. Must be on new monsters. Very unmemorable WAD...nothing special.

While I don't care much for this Hexen wad being GZdoom specific, its not a bad short hub. 3/5

Epic... wait... ah... well, it's not bad and have some fun on it but those new monsters are annoying(not the solider). No comment on BOSS fights and visual effects...but, I think it can be better...Hexen + GZDooM should not just like this I think. 2.5/5 -playerlin

Terribly unfun. The level design is interesting at times, but hideous at others. Ugly use of slopes and particle fountains abound. The author included the most annoying monsters he could find on the Realm667 bestiary and two weapons from Heretic which are semi-broken. Proper placement of monsters is forgone in favor of using the new monsters as often as possible. Meh, 2/5 stars for effort.

Hexen doesn't deserve this.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
